Louisville, Kentucky is noted for The Kentucky Derby, the most prestigious thoroughbred horse race in America, 1 1/4 mi. for 3 year olds, is run on the first Saturday in May each year. There are several events leading up to the Derby, held 2 weeks prior to the Derby. The Great Balloon Race held the last Saturday in April. The Belle of Louisville and the Island Queen race on the Ohio River, Thunder Over Louisville, which is a great show before the fireworks on the Ohio River and a Great Parade.
