After many months of research, and having 2 PF dogs, I have come to the conclusion that PFs are not completely as first believed, an auto-immune disease. PFs are actually more like an infected sebaceous cyst. Let me explain - When the dog's body reacts to the infection building up in the anal gland sacs region (sometimes infecting the anal sacs themselves) PFs are developed. At this point the use of antibiotics and immunosuppressants such as Flagyl and Imuran are extremely important. The infection levels must be lowered until a plateau is seen and then at that time the vet should proceed with surgically removing the anal gland sacs as well as any diseased tissue, preferably using the Ullmann's surgical knife. After post-op it is important to continue the dog on antibiotics and the Imuran and Flagyl until the anal region is fully healed at which time the dog can be declared cured. This was proven to be accurate as written in the
Australia PF Report. I have left all of the original PF information on this website so you can read it through and judge for yourselves. For those of you that question the above here's more food for thought. One of the PF dogs has been PF free after undergoing homeopathic treatment and NO surgery. Still, for me the fact that both my PF dogs became PF free after successful surgery and the use of antibiotics with immunosuppressants I am convinced that this was the only route to go that produced complete results of cured.NOTICE
