Mrs. F. Lynn Eggan, 305 W. Oak St., executive secretary of the Rome Chapter, American Red Cross, from 1939 to 1949, died Thursday evening at her home after a six-weeks illness.
The first full-time director of the local chapter, she had charge of the chapter's expanded program during World War II and was cited at the time of her resignation as having "performed invaluable service to the Red Cross and the community."
The former Edna A. Herrmann, she was born in Baltimore, Md., on March 28, 1902, daughter of William A. and Lottie A. Schoenewolfe Herrmann. She was graduated from Western High School in that city and from the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts.
Her marriage to Eggan took place in Baltimore June 5, 1928, with the Rev. John Fleck, officiating. She came to Rome after her marriage. Her husband is physical education director for the YMCA.
Mrs. Eggan was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Friendship Bible Class, the Brenner Circle and the Wednesday Morning Club.
Surviving with her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Hugh E. Philipp, Rome; a sister, Mrs. E.J. Messersmith, and a brother William A. Herrmann, both of Baltimore, and two grandchildren, Sharon Lynn and Catherine Louise Philipp, Rome.
Funeral services will be held at 2 Monday at the Mae F. Strong Funeral Home with the Rev. John J. Baker, pastor of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. David N. Boswell, D.D., retired pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Rome Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Arthritis and Rheumatism Fund, 10 Columbus Circle, New York 19, New York.
