Mrs. Arthur W. Payne

Mrs. Arthur W. (Pauline) Payne, 81, of 208 W. Walnut St., died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1982, in Rome Hospital after a long illness.

Born March 11, 1901, in Rome, she was a daughter of David and Ella Armstrong Eggan. On June 17, 1939, in Rome she married Farnham M. Gregory, who died in January 1944. In October 1951 in Rome, she married Arthur W. Payne, who died on April 6, 1982.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church; Holly Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; John H. Allendorf Court, Order of the Amaranth; Queen Esther Rebekah Lodge, International Order of Odd Fellows, and the Ava Dorfman Senior Citizens Civic Center.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. John A. (Dorothy) Robinson of Rome; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Frank (Jean) Thorndill of Erie, Pa., and a stepson, John A. Payne of Albuquerque, N.M. Another stepdaughter, Mrs. Fred (Dorothy) Grotevant, died in 1981.

Funeral services will be held at the Strong Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church organ fund.
