Welcome to my Web Site!

Cyber Home of

Beverly C. Specht

I created this web site primarily to showcase some of my artwork which you can view by clicking on the "Gallery" button above. I have also added a small photo page and may be adding more subject pages in the future.

A little background, please:  I'm a "Baby Boomer" living in Southwestern Pennsylvania with my husband and two small parrots. Although I started college back in Ohio many (many) years ago on an art scholarship, I eventually wound up completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh.  Like so many artists who embrace a "realistic" or "representational" style of painting, I found myself to be a stranger in a strange land in the abstract-only art program offered by the university in Ohio. We soon parted ways.

I began drawing as soon as I was old enough to hold a pencil (or crayon). My inspiration was seeing a real, live horse for the first time. I was in love! I couldn't wait to get home and try to draw that beautiful creature. That love of horses turned into a lifelong passion. I kept working hard to improve my skills and eventually branched out to other subject matter. As an artist, I am largely self-taught.

Some of my favorite painting subjects are:

bulletHorses, especially Arabian and Spanish breeds.
bulletWildlife and domestic animals or pets.
bulletNature--flowers are a particular favorite.
bulletParrots, song birds, waterfowl, game birds, hawks, falcons, eagles.
bulletPeople.

I specialize in drawing and painting Arabian horses (my favorite breed).  But I also enjoy doing portraits of people (formal and informal) and fantasy art. I accept commissions to do custom paintings or portraits (critters or people).

My other primary areas of interest are writing,  computers and digital photography.

Since I am working on writing a fantasy, sword & sorcery novel, I like to illustrate it with my own drawings of the characters and scenes. Check out the bottom of my Gallery page for a sketch of some of the characters from my novel.

To begin your tour of my art gallery, just click on the button at the top of this page marked "Gallery" -- and follow the instructions at the top of the gallery page. To visit the "photo album," click on the button above marked "Photos" and follow the instructions there.
