My Background

Time By Escati
In Wickersley, Yorkshire England it is:

I was born in Wickersley, a village in Yorkshire, England.  There I grew up, graduated from high school, and became an engineer making fabrications for engineering products. I also had a stint working as a truck -- (lorry) -- driver helping to build the new motorways -- (freeways)-- that appeared in England during the early 70s. I emigrated to the United States in 1974.  I entered Fort Hays State University Kansas that year, and graduated as a teacher in 1978.  I was a teacher in Kansas for 20 years. I retired in 1998 and am now living in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.

There is much that I miss of England. The fish and chips, driving on the "wrong" side of the road, the warm beer, the rain, the traditions, the school kids in uniforms, the flowers, the gardens, the trees, the stately homes, the palaces, the little villages with quaint names, the Battle of Britain air shows, the fishing, the friendliness of the people there, the trips to the seaside and the moors, -- Blackpool, Bridlington, Scarborough, the Pennines, and Derbyshire --. The short distance to anywhere important, the different accents, LONDON, and other aspects of England.

From 1978 to 1998 I educated sixth grade students. I helped them acquire the skills to handle the world around them. For me, teaching was a very rewarding occupation. It nevertheless; was very demanding, especially when I compared the students I educated in the nineties, with those I educated back in the seventies...

There is much that I enjoyed about living and working in Kansas. I lived in a rural town with all the blessings of rural life wrapped around it. There were at least 280 days in a year that I could use my telescope to observe the night sky. When I traveled the roads it was perhaps mostly in splendid isolation -- far from the madding crowd. The only time when problems came knocking on our door might be when a tornado or two came rumbling
over the horizon. Fortunately none touched down in the neighborhood while I lived there.. If I wanted to get rid of "Flatland Fever" I just headed 300+ miles west to Colorado, with its mountains, and came back totally refreshed. As I said I now live in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. It is a very different place to Kansas. The roads are not very nice to drive on due to the traffic. There is none of the splendid isolation that I enjoyed in Kansas. The climate is great. I can visit South Padre Island to get refreshed. There are a larger amount of activities to get involved in here in the Valley.
