Martha Ann's Roots

All my Ancestors

This is a Genealogy Site

Hi!! WELCOME to my first home on the web. My given name is Martha Ann (that's what all my aunts, uncles and cousins call me.) Please bear with me as I build my page. I am new at this and there are a lot of new things to learn!! A little about me: my main interest is genealogy. I enjoy learning about my ancestors and what they did during their lifetime. I can easily picture them and get so wrapped up in my own little world, that time goes by much too fast. Anyone else have that problem? This is a genealogy site. If I can help anyone, I am always happy to do so. Feel free to email me, address at bottom of page.

I also enjoy counted-cross stitch, crochet, baking, reading, music, animals, writing, collecting Coca-Cola, Confederate Flags and Native American items. (This area of Indiana once belonged to the Miami Nation. The "Big Reserve" boundary line is about 5 miles from my home. Several miles south of here, the Lenni Lenape (Delaware) Nation lived. The city of Anderson was named after the Lenni Lenape (Delaware) Chief Kikthawenund.)

My son T.J. restored an old pioneer cemetery near where we live as his Community service project for Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts. I found it to be a very interesting project as I helped T.J. do the research on one of the first families who owned the land. All of the Carver descendants we were intouch with freely gave information to us for T.J.'s project. We appreciate all the help and time they have given to "strangers". After spending 8 months researching their ancestors, I do feel like a member of a very giving family, who value their roots. If anyone who is reading this needs information on the Carver/Longwell families I have included links to their geneology sites.

Because of our work on the cemetery, a friend of mine (a Carver descendant) sent me the following poem. I believe this poem fits any of us who research our family lines and/or restore cemeteries. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

Dear Ancestor

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
