I really enjoy playing sports.  While I'm no superstar athlete (by ANY stretch of the imagination!) I like to think that I'm pretty good at most sports.  My favourite is definitely tennis.  I've been playing for about five years now and I am really into it.  I play whenever I can - usually around 8-9 hours a week in the summer at our local tennis club.

Aside from that, I do a little biking, rollerblading, baseball - whatever.  Nothing else all that seriously.  I did have a short-lived stint in Little League baseball but quickly got turned off from that after a terrible year.  I stunk, my coach was a moron, and I was tired of hearing other people's parents living out their dreams through their children (and the phrase 'goodayye').  Maybe it's just me, but an obese mother should NOT be telling her child he doesn't know how to run!

During the winter, things slow down a little.  I play badminton competitively but not much else.  Aside from the sporadic contact-snowball-fights with my friends, I'm not really into winter sports.    (I tried skiing a few times but it got too repetitive.  Go down - come back up.  Go down - come back up.  Go down...)

Check out my links to these great sites that feature the sports I'm involved in.

Tennis Masters Series
- I know, not quite a thrilling site to visit (unless you're dying to see a diagram of the stadium or something.)  I went to the tournament last year and saw Agassi and Krajicek play in the semis.  I didn't get any autographs or anything but it was pretty cool seeing those two playing in REAL LIFE!!!  (As if they're all fake-plastic things on T.V. or something...)

Tennis Server Interactive
- Online tennis newsletter.  A pretty interesting site but REALLY super-saturated.  (eg. One article I read had the columnist saying "I'm relatively new to the game having played less than a decade..."  It caters to a certain level of sporting intensity (articles on the "Mental Game"), but read-worthy neverthless.

US Open Official Site
- The low-down on all that's happening in Flushing Meadows.  If you visit during the Open, you can check out all the funky multimedia on this page (NetCams, Player Bios, Java Scoreboard).  If you visit after the Open, you can check out all the funky dead-links. =)

Badminton

Two years ago, I got together with a new mixed doubles partner, Kirstin Spitzer, and we did really well in our tournaments.  We placed third at the SOSSA final (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association) and first in Zone.  Last year was another story, but I smell comeback.

Rollerblading

Biking

I tried jumping off a ramp with my bike at one point in my life.  Then I completely tore off the right side of my face in the ensuing accident.  I've decided to stick to moderate outdoor trails now.

Street Hockey

No skates, no ice and no more players than are in your neighbourhood.  Also known as 'shtickball' in Brooklyn, N.Y.

NIKE.com

I know, the wonderful game of 'Nike' hasn't yet been inducted into the official Olympics lineup as a sport.  A very deserving sports-related site to put on this list neverthless.

Fitness/Working Out

I'm a pretty health-conscious person and throughout the year, I follow my own little self-dictated fitness routine.  Every night before I go to bed, I do my little regiment of curl-ups, fly-weights, and pushups.  It's been almost every night for 5 years now, and I'm going strong.  Probably will never look like Arnold Schwarzenegger (nor do I want to!) but it's good for discipline and staying in shape.
