SISTARE FAMILY HISTORY NOTES

These notes are taken from several sources and some are conflicting, but maybe the truth lies in here somewhere.

Capt.Gabriel Sistare(Lazaro Jose Gabriel Cistere) was born in Barcelona,Spain,May 1,1725. His parents were Don Gabriel Sistare, also a Sea Captain, who died at sea,and Maria Mitzavila. In September 1771, he lost his ship,"Montserrete",in a gale, loaded with a cargo of sugar and spices, which was bound from Havana,Cuba to Cadiz,Spain. He was rescued by Capt.DeShon and they landed in New London,CT.,where he decided to stay, possibly because of legal troubles over the shipwreck. He returned to Spain and brought back his son Gabriel. His wife,Maria Frances Molas, refused to come to America. He either divorced her or just abandoned her. She later claimed a "widows dower" after his death, fueling the abandonment theory.

The info on Gabriel's American wife,Elizabeth, is in dispute. Some believe she was the daughter of Josiah Smith and Abigal Beebe. My contact with Beebe family researchers leads me to go with the daughter of Nathaniel Beebe and Lydia Griffin.
