New Years Eve Day - 2000

If you like being out in nature as much as I do, you'll just love Starved Rock State Park. I've been going there ever since I was a small child. Now, I've been going there just about every weekend.

On this web site, you will get an entire photo tour of Starved Rock State Park.

Since June 1999, I have been going to Starved Rock two to three times a week. I've spent literally every weekend there for at least one day. I've done so much there and walked so many miles, it is difficult to keep up with all I've documented.

I've added all the rest of the canyons except a couple to this web site. Horseshoe canyon, which lies on private property, can now be seen on this site. This canyon is not shown on the trail maps found throughout the park but it IS shown on the NGS topographic charts. The hike into this canyon was a little more challenging than other canyons as there are no trails defined. We had to walk through a couple fields to get to the edge of the forrest and find the way in ourselves. The canyon is somewhat smaller but has two waterfalls in it.

I'd like to express my gratitude to Mr. John Blume for giving me a night permit to hike the trails after dark. Hiking on the trails after dark is prohibited in the park. Besides being extremely dangerous, there isn't much to see unless you're on the river trail which was our destination for our night permit. From Starved Rock itself, Lover's Leap, and Eagle Cliff, there is a wonderful view of the river, locks, and dam. The dam is lit up beautifully at night and the lights reflecting off the river makes a real nice picture. You can see some of the pictures I got from late evening until midnight from atop these places on my special night page.
