My Favorite Texas Tornado!

Tracy Lawrence singing "Texas Tornado"
New Orleans, La. 4-19-97

Tracy Lawrence is a singer, songwriter, performer, producer, and a great, all-around person. His music has touched the lives of many people, including myself. He is at the top of my Favorite Artist list. Tracy is kind and generous. He helps out many charities. He even helped out a local cancer camp that I attended by making a promo for a telethon with me.

Tracy signed with Atlantic Records in 1991. Tracy's debut single, Sticks and Stones, was the first of many #1 hits for him. In all, Tracy has had 19 singles that have reached the top 10 on the charts, most reaching #1. His current single, How a Cowgirl Says Goodbye, is already among the top 5. My favorite song is his #1 hit, Texas Tornado, and I always love to hear him sing it live.

Tracy has released a total of six albums, including a Live album. According to his most recent fan club newsletter, all six of his albums have sold over a million copies. His current album is The Coast Is Clear.

Although he has won several awards, including the 1993 A C M Top New Male Vocalist, Tracy (in my opinion) has been overlooked in recent years by the award shows. I'd like to see him, at least, nominated for Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year.

I have had the opportunity to see Tracy many times in concert. If you have never seen a Tracy Lawrence concert, then I think you are missing something. He always puts on a good show, and he always makes me smile when I see him. I am looking forward to seeing him perform live, September 20, 1997, on my first visit to the Grand Ol Opry. Seeing the Opry has been a dream of mine for quite some time, and to see Tracy perform on the Opry stage makes my visit even more special.

Tracy, thanks for being my friend!

What a way to end 1997 and start 1998 than with one of my Favorite people----TRACY LAWRENCE! I had the best time even though I had been so sick that day. I am so glad my doctor let me go. I not only got to see Tracy, Wes, and all the band, but I got to see some friends from the organization we don't always get to see. "Hi Penny, from T.L.E., and Hi Flip, former keyboard player, it was good to see you guys there." The concert was great, as usual. Tracy had performed an earlier show before I got there, but even though he must have been tired, he still put all his energy into his show.

As with all his shows, it ended too soon. After the show, Tracy and I had a real nice talk and visit. It was one of the nicest visits I ever had with him. Thanks for the encouragement, Tracy, you really made me feel better! I hope to see you again soon!

Tracy will now be taking a much, deserved break for the month of January, before resuming his hectic tour schedule. I will get some new pictures scanned soon so I can put them up. Don't forget to call your radio stations and request Tracy's music.

UPDATE--Tracy has been busy on his tour lately, and even though I have been pretty sick, I got to go to Poteau, Oklahoma to see him a few months ago. As usual, he put a lot of energy into his show, and I had a fun time. I got to meet some of Wes' family, and they were all nice. Thanks Wes for loaning me your jacket to stay warm!

Even with his busy schedule, Tracy found time to show people that he has a Heart of Gold. When the town of Jonesboro, Arkansas was faced with a terrible tragedy March 24,1998, Tracy wanted to help in some way. He decided to use his great talent to put on a benefit concert to raise money in memory of Shannon Wright, the school teacher, and the four young girls that lost their lives in a shooting at Westside Middle School in Bono, just outside of Jonesboro. They had an auction of items donated by Tracy and many Country Artists, other entertainment, and then Tracy and his band, Little Elvis, played some songs for those that came. All the money raised went to a scholarship fund in Memory of the teacher. Even though the town was still recovering from the shock of the shootings, there were many people who came out to show their support for this great cause. God bless all the people who were affected by this tragedy.

This week, Tracy travels back to his hometown of Foreman, Arkansas for his annual Homecoming, June 5. I can hardly wait to go see him. I know it will be a lot of fun. This is another of the many ways that Tracy uses his talent to benefit others.
