Soon merely reading stories wasn't enough and I began writing stories on my own and with my sister's help. Most of the stories are in either the JAG universe or in one of the many Magnificent Seven universes. When no existing universe seemed to fit a story idea I'd come up with, I'd write my own story and make up a universe. Over time, that happened a lot.
The alternate universe I came up with on my own - was actually a collaboration with my sister, Heidi. We took a world we'd created as children and made the characters of Magnificent Seven children attending a bardic school there.
Another universe, interesting started because of a television commercial for deodarant. It was intended to show that even under stress this deodorant will work... but the image of Ezra hanging from the ceiling by wires wouldn't get out of my head - thus was born the Foxes and Hounds universe. Ezra, Josiah and Winnie (a female Vin) are thieves and private investigators and Chris, Buck, Nathan, JD and Vin (there are two Vin's in this AU - they're twins) install security systems in homes and businesses.
Then, I went to the Greene County fair and bought a necklace that tinkled like a bell. For some reason - probably because I was reading Mag7 fiction - I imagined Ezra as a prince with a magic necklace he could use to call faeries. (Boy, I have an odd imagination). After writing nearly the entire story, I decided that Ezra wasn't going to be a prince after all and that's what started the Bostanian stories.
Another universe came from a challenge that a list offered. We were supposed to write a story with two of the Magnificent Seven as children during a power outage. Out of that single story grew an entire universe where Ezra and Vin are children and Chris takes care of them.
A second universe that grew out of a challenge was in reply to one that I, myself, had issued. I started a story with the lines in the challenge and - because of a cross-stitch pattern I'd bought - made the seven cats.
The final universe on this page is simply called the "Ultimate Crossover Universe." No truer words were ever spoken... This universe has characters from every show I've ever watched, as well as some characters that I've made up. In it, Chris is the captain of a starship and the other people are the crew. It exists in the Babylon 5 universe, but those people never actually appear. Instead, the ship and her crew work for the Confederation of Sister Planets - a group of worlds made up by my sister and I. The people are human... just not from Earth.
