Wild vs. Dallas Stars
March 12, 2003
4-2 Win
Whenever the old Minnesota team comes to town, it's a big deal - and this game was no exception.  This was an extra special game because my cousin Kristi joined me at the game, and we won a contest on WILD.COM.  We were asked to sing the "State of Hockey" anthem from one of the stages in the upper rafters of the Xcel Energy Center during the first intermission.  We also got a $100 gift certificate for a resort in Northern Minnesota.  The Wild opened the game with a 4-goal performance and cruised to a 4-2 victory.

Hockey Night in the STATE OF HOCKEY
Drop the puck!  The former vs. the current team - GO WILD!
We were raised with a stick and a pair of blades...in the State of Hockey!
The Wild swarm around Stars goalie Tugnott - and finally Darby Hendrickson scores the first goal for the Wild - his first of the season - not bad for the Minnesota-native who grew up just down the street from the Met Center where the Northstars used to play.  The WILD scored 4 un-answered goals in the first.
After the first period it was 4-0 Minnesota, and it was time for Kristi and I to head up to the stage and sing the Wild's anthem, "The State of Hockey."  To listen to the song and read the words, go to the MN Wild web site.  We entered a contest on the Wild web site back in February saying we would be at the game and would like to sing the anthem.  We were notified two days before the game that we had won the contest!  We had been practicing the song for a month "just in case," but we never dreamt that we would really win and sing in front of all 18,000+ fans at the game.  But we did a great job and got lots of compliments - we weren't nervous at all.  The moment came and went so fast - and it was so weird to see our faces on the big video board in the arena.
View from the stage where we sang.
Here's our buddy Bruce from the WILD who escorted us around and treated us like VIPS - thanks for the hot pretzels!
