September 5- We decided to go to the South Shore and Poipu Beach today.  First, we stopped at Spouting Horn.  It was pretty cool- a big spout of water shoots out a hole near the ocean and also makes a really eery kind of moaning sound.   Then, we went to Poipu Beach and went snorkeling.  The snorkeling was great!  We saw all sorts of beautiful fish, it was like swimming in a salt water aquarium.

Next, we decided to make another attempt to find Kipu Falls (we'd tried the day before with no success).  We actually had a good map this time and found it.  The trail back to the falls was pretty easy.  It was such a cool place!  You walk down some rocks and find yourself standing at the top of a waterfall with a big swimming hole at the bottom.  The only way to get into the little pond was to jump off the waterfall or swing WAY out on a
Spouting Horn
rope.  Needless to say, I stayed dry.  Henry used the rope swing and jumped right in.  The hard part was climbing back out using a rickety rope ladder. But, Henry didn't have a problem. I blamed my reluctance to jump on being pregnant, but I wouldn't have done it anyway! I forgot my camera in the car, so I knew we had to come back again so we could take some pictures.
September 6- Henry had to give me a progesterone shot this morning for the first time (I have to have one a week until I'm 13 weeks pregnant).  I was nervous about it, but he did an excellent job and it didn't even hurt.

We decided to go to the Wailua River to go kayaking.  All the guidebooks said to go early to avoid the crowds. But, we went later, around 1:00 and we had the place pretty much to ourselves.  It took us a while to get in synch, I blame it on Henry's lack of rythm ;o) .  All the while Henry kept saying "we're proffesional kay-yakkers".  Don't ask why, that's just Henry.  We finally reached a little lagoon and parked our kayaks. We hiked for about 45 minutes until we reached the waterfall.  When we looked up at it, it took our breath away. Here in front of us was a waterfall dropping 100 feet into a pool of water that we could swim in.  It was amazing.  There was only 1 other couple there.  We jumped in the water and swam in front of the falls (not under them or they probably would have crushed us).  Swimming about 10 feet in front of this gorgeous waterfall with mist all around us was something I'll never forget.  As soon
as we got out of the water, it started to rain.  So, we had to hurry up and get out of there as the path was really steep and we didn't want it to get too slippery.  We got completeley soaked on the way back to the kayak, but it was fun!  We kayaked back to the car, splashing each other and giggling the whole way. It was the best and most romantic day we'd had so far.

September 7- Henry left to go scuba diving in the morning, so I planned to spend the day by the pool.  But, he came back home about an hour later saying the dive trip was cancelled because the ocean conditions were too dangerous.  So, we drove into Kapa'a and went to a little craft fair they had going.  Then, we came back and hung around the house, having a relaxing day.  We ended up going to bed at 8:30!

September 8- We went out to Kipu Falls again to get some pictures. There were more people there this time, but that made me feel safer since I couldn't dive in to help Henry if he got hurt.  This time he actually jumped right off the top of the falls! After that it started raining so we just went to see a movie, "My Big Fat

The gorgeous waterfall we went swimming with
Greek Wedding. It was hilarious!! We both loved it! After the movie we went back to the house and went swimming. Then, we started packing up our stuff as we had to leave in the morning.  :o(

September 9- We flew from Kauai to Oahu again and again were unimpressed with Honolulu.  There was so much traffic and too many people.  Our hotel was REALLY nice! We stayed at the Marriot Waikiki Beach Resort (priceline for $90/night).  But, I wish we would have stayed in a rental house in Kailua or Lanikai like I'd originally planned.  The parking at the hotel cost $10/day to park in a parking garage down the street! So, we forked over an extra $12 for 4 nights and had valet parking.

We went to the Waikele Outlet Mall which was about 30 minutes away from the hotel.  I was excited to see a Motherhood Maternity outlet and I got a few t-shirts.  Henry went in the Osh Gosh B'Gosh store while I was in the bathroom and I caught him holding up a little baby fuzzy fleece outfit when I came back.  I just watched him for a while because I thought it was so sweet!  We ended up at an air force base trying to find  the way back to the hotel- ooops!! But, we finally found it.  We were right across the street from Waikiki Beach, so we walked over there and watched the surfers while the sun set.  It was really nice
September 10- We headed for the USS Arizona Memorial as soon as we got ready and got there at about 10:00. The guide books said to go early, but there were a lot less people there by the time we left around noon.  There were signs saying no bags or purses were allowed in the memorial. Then, there were signs saying "don't leave valuables in your car." Okay...so we just stuffed Henry's pockets full of our things.  It was very touching to stand outside the memorial and look out over Pearl Harbor where it all happened.  I got teary eyed a few times. We went over to the memorial about 90 minutes after we got there and I was dissapointed by the other people's attitudes.  They were laughing and smiling big cheesy grins so they could have their pictures taken with the Arizona.  I thought it should have been a more solemn occasion.   But, it was eery seeing the ship just under the water with oil still leaking out.
