Here are some pics of the motor rebuild in spring '01: |
Never Enough....... A valve spring failed and and a piece of it ended up in the timing chain area and it eventually got caught up in the water pump drive gear and took out most of it's teeth- which at the time was contributing to the car's overheating problem. The motor had to come out and get torn down to fix and clean everything out. Since the OEM heads were warped and thrashed pretty good, I decided to get the AFR heads. For space saving purposes, we installed the BMR K-Member and removed the Air Conditioning system. |
Parts installed Aug '02 Rebuild: AFR/TPIS Heads BMR K-Member SVO 30# injectors 1LE A/C Delete Pulley- GM Part #10115875 Autometer Dual gauge pod w/ trans temp & A/F ratio gauges ...OEM parts that failed or taken out by the errant valve spring pieces: Waterpump drive gear assembly Water Pump Starter Alternator LT1 Timing Chain & Sprocket Set ...And parts that were removed and not reinstalled... Air Conditioning Air Pump Single piece underdrive pulley |
The BMR K-Member is still new to the market and is a lightweight & space saving replacement for the stock K-Member. It has integrated motor mounts, although it does require a new pass side Energy Suspension motor mount. see more info here |
These heads are AFR LT1 castings that have been reworked by Tuned Port Induction Specialties- Chaska,MN. They received a 3 anlge valve job and have 2.02 intake & 1.65 exhaust, Manley Stainless Steel Valves and .600 lift springs with titaniuim locks & retainers. |
