Lesson #21

The Helmet of Salvation

Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

The helmet was a fascinating piece of armor.
It was a flamboyant piece of weaponry,
very ornate and intricate.

The helmet of the Roman soldier looked more like a piece of artwork than a helmet.
His helmet was beautiful!
Rather than a simple piece of metal that had been formed to fit the head of a soldier, the helmet the Roman soldiers wore was highly decorated with all kinds of etchings and engravings.
Some helmets were shaped like an animal or a bowl of fruit with beautiful brightly colored feathers or horse hair sticking out from the top.

The helmet was made of bronze and were equipped with pieces of armor that was specifically designed to protect the cheeks and the jaws.

This piece of armor was so strong and massive
that nothing could pierce it.
Not even a hammer or a battle-ax.

It would be very hard to walk past
these soldiers and not notice them.

Why would the Holy Spirit take a piece
of weaponry and compare it to salvation?

It is because salvation is the most gorgeous, most intricate, most elaborate, most ornate gift God could ever give you!!!!
Paul calls this marvelous gift
the helmet of salvation.
Moreover he use the Roman soldier's
helmet to make this point.
Just like the Roman soldiers
helmet was very noticeable.
Paul is telling us something very important here.
When a man or women is confident of his or her salvation-and when he or she is walking in the powerful reality of all that salvation means for them, they are noticeable people.

Why did a Roman soldier need a helmet?
Because his opponent carried a short handed battle-ax,
And when battle axes were used, heads rolled!
If the roman soldier did not have a helmet on,
He was sure to lose his head.
So not only was it a beautiful piece of weaponry,
it saved you from losing your head.
This is why you must keep your helmet
of salvation on at all times.
The very first place that the enemy would like to attack is your mind.
He wants to steal your victory.
Don't let him!!!
Let him know who you are in Christ.
He must know that you have every piece of your armor on.
And don't take it off!!!
You must let the enemy of your soul know
that you are armed and dangerous!!!
The enemy would love nothing more than to place
a stronghold in your mind.

2nd Corinthians 10:4-5 says,
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

What is a stronghold?
The word stronghold comes from the
Greek word (ochuroma).
Which means fortress or in
New Testament terms prison.
The devil loves to put thoughts in your minds like,
You aren't saved, you will never be delivered, God doesn't care what happens to you, you will never be healed, you will never be able to pay off that bill, God will never heal that relationship, you are going to always be depressed, you might as well kill yourself, things of this nature, and then once he gets this types of thoughts in our heads then,
He builds a wall or a fortress around them so that they will have to remain there. But thank God, He has given us something that can knock down those walls that satan has tried to build.
What is it? It is the Word of God!!!!
The word of God can knock down any stronghold
that satan may try to build.
God's word gives us the power to
knock down those strongholds.
But satan doesn't want you to know that.
Thank God for his all powerful Word.
God has given us the authority to use His Name and His Word.
So come on saints of God let's
get those helmets in place.
