Song Magazine Review Boil Anger's sophomore album, "Boil's Still Here!" shows maturity and growth in ways that rival Gwen Stephani's after her break-up with Tony. Boil and Joe Ritchie of the now defunk boy-band Old Kids on the Block broke up, and it was messy. You can read about the IMs and e-mails on her official site. And that adds to the majesty of the record. "Back Off Bitch" was clearly written when they were together. It's a warning to a desperate, slutty X-girlfriend trying to steal Boil's man. "Bitch, Ima kill you all night long!" is very Eminem-esque. The song is good, and that's why it stayed after the break-up. "I Hate You" is a classic pop duet with Pop Slut, Boil's best friend in the business. That's not to be confused with "I Fucking Hate You," her ode to Joe post-break-up. It's an honest look at a dysfunctional break-up with a psycho X who caused the break-up yet can't let go. Other shining moments are when Boil chronicles the end of respect from Joe in "Change" and the follow-up report in "Move On." (It was written later than "I Fucking Hate You," and there are some new juicy tidbits.) Boil's tongue-in-cheek parody that was omnipresent on the first album is gone. It's all serious, and so is she. She is NOT to be messed with, and I pity the fool who gets on Miss Anger's bad side! |
