The Other Residents

Tigger, Sophie, Selene, Orion, Sebastien, Zoe

Tigger is a 6 year old abyssinian cat, and my best friend. He is ever the goofball and will continue to be for the rest of his life I'm sure. He has been with me since I was in eighth grade in Michigan. He was an incredibly cute little kitten, his ears were way too big compared to the rest of his body. He finally grew into them, but the pictures of him with his huge ears are still some of my favorites.

Selene and Sophie

Sophie is a 2 year old chocolate colored hedgehog. She is a little bit on the heavy side, but she is completely healthy otherwise. She is an avid wheeler and is one of the friendliest hedgehogs that I have ever seen. Sophie came to me almost exactly 2 weeks before Gypsy passed away, so she is quite special to me

Selene was Sophie's best friend and roommate. Selene was an addition to the family to keep Sophie company after Gypsy passed away, since Sophie really did not like being alone. I took Sophie down state to meet with a hedgehog breeder to see if there were any pogs that she would want as a roommate, and she found one. Selene also was chocolate colored, and is the most determined little wheeler I have ever seen. She will run on any kind of wheel, dirty or clean, big or small.

December 15, 2000: This morning Selene crossed over the bridge rather unexpectedly. In her necropsy, it was found that she had adenocarcinoma along with possible renal failure. They found a small tumor protruding from the tip of her right uterine horn, which was bleeding down into her uterus. Prior to this morning she had appeared in good shape physically and had no bleeding until about 5 minutes before she crossed over.

Orion is the only male hedgehog in the place. He is a chocolate colored hedgie, and is a little bit reserved. He can be quite friendly, but sometimes takes a little while to warm up.

Zoe is a little rescue girl that came to me on July 28, 2000. When I got her she was missing most of her teeth on the right side of her mouth and lost two more teeth over the next week just while I was trying to count how many she had left. She is a little chocolate chip colored girl and is very friendly. She is a little shy at first but is a real cuddler. She is probably the most active hedgie here at the moment, she runs on her wheel day and night. On March 6, 2001 Zoe got a hysterectomy. Over the past 3 days I had found blood in the cage along with her, Sophie, and Eilonwy. It took a short time to determine who the blood was coming from, but once we realized that it was Zoe we went straight to the nearest hedgie vet. The histopathology findings showed that she has adenocarcinoma, oddly enough in the exact same place that Selene had hers. A small tumor protruding from the tip of the right uterine horn, and bleeding down into the uterus.

May 3, 2001: After an all day battle yesterday, Zoe crossed over the bridge sometime during the early hours of the morning. I found her laying outside the pigloo away from Sophie and Eilonwy. Off to the vet we went... It was a very long day.

Eilonwy is a cinnacot colored hedgehog that I got to be a companion for Zoe in September, 2000. She was born in June, 2000 and is a very sweet girl. She is relatively quite and would rather snuggle than explore, but she really does love her wheel. She is now rooming with Sophie and they get along famously. She is a dedicated wheeler and manages to keep me up at night.

Sébastien is a kitty who traveled from Colorado to Michigan with me. He is about a year and a half old right now and is the funniest little thing. Perhaps "little" is not the optimum word for him, seeing as he weighs in at around 14 lbs right now. He is a very gentle boy who loves to play fetch and chase milk rings.
