Getting to know me. September 24, 2001
Hello, my name is Esperanza de Heidi.   I am a first year English and Spanish student at Thomas Nelson Community College.   I chose the name Esperanza de Heidi because it means "Heidi's hope".   I think if I had to sum myself up in two words those are the words I would choose.  In my life, prayer and hope are the soil in which everything else is cultivated.
To begin with, I am a struggling, single mother.  I have a beautiful eight-year-old son.  He is my reason for getting up in the morning.   I remember when my son was very small; he would often try to make my lunch.   Nothing, says, "loving" like a homemade ketchup and Life cereal sandwich!   Ketchup and Life cereal actually taste good to a little kid!  That is an example of the silly type of thing that makes my day.
We all have stories to tell, and new and interesting people fascinate me.  My friends consist of people from all walks of life.  I enjoy people of all social, cultural and financial backgrounds.  What means the most to me is what a person has in his heart, not what is in his pocketbook.
Besides my eight-year-old, I love people and enjoy being around them.    I have an extensive church family who give me lots of love and support.   I am an active Cub Scout leader and believe a parent should be as active in their child's life as possible.
I spend much of my time at work but find myself happiest when I am at home with my family.  I strive for peace in my life, at home and work.  I try to leave my outside worries on my doorstep, which sometimes is not easy.   Home to me, is a place of sanctuary, where I can escape the irritants of life.
My life is not perfect or even easy.  Someday, I hope to make a difference in the world, though I am not entirely sure how.   I think if I raise my son to be a kind, caring and intelligent soul, it will be a good start in making the world a better place.
