Battle of the Books is a recreational reading competition between teams in the classroom.  Mrs. Reff's Literature classes will be divided into teams in their respective classes.  Each student is responsible for reading three of the fifteen titles of their choice.  On the day of the classroom battle,  students will be asked to answer content questions about their books.  It is usually in the best interest of the team if some students read more than three books.  If some one is absent on the day of the battle, if no one else has read their books they will be unable to answer the questions and lose the points for that question.  The winning team from each classroom battle with compete with other winning teams for the grade level  championship.

READING COUNTS
Reading Counts is a computer generated reading program from Scholastic Book Company.  Students read books that have computer comprehension questions and then they test on the book.  If the student gets 7 out of the 10 questions correct they have passed the test and are awarded the points for that book.
Earlier in the school year we set several point goals.  Each student was asked to set a personal goal, each grade level  has set a goal.  The school has set a goal to read 35, 000 points by April 19, 2001.
Prizes will be awarded to the students at various point levels.  Parties will be given at the end of the school year if the goals are met.
There will be a monthly update featuring point leaders in the three grades.  Also, we will total the points for the whole grade and keep you updated on how the entire grade is doing pointwise.
