Hello, and welcome to the section of my website honoring the fiery goddess Sekhment. Sekhmet is a strong, stout goddess that fiercely looks after her children, and expects them to be strong, passionate individuals. Being the goddess of war and rage, she was said to protect the pharoah from his enemies in ancient times, and still does so for those she deems worthy of her love. Whenever I'm faced with a dillema, I pray to Sekhmet for strength and guidance. To me, she is the strength to face adversity, the passion to love life for what it is, the drive to pursue all what life has to offer. She gives strength to those who are weak, wisdom to those who have fallen short of their goals, and the will to live on to those whom have drank of the poison of misfortune. |
Sekhmet is perhaps most well-known for her role in the myth of "The Destruction of Mankind." It was said that humans were becoming wary of following Ra as the ages passed, and they claimed he was a weak and feeble god. In his anger, Ra called forth a meeting of the Gods, and it was decided that Sekhmet would be sent to deal with the traitors. Soon, humankind grew remorseful of their betrayal of the Gods as Sekhmet ravaged the landscape with destruction and carnage. As the humans cried out for forgiveness, Ra began to take pity upon the human race, and he pleaded Sekhmet to reframe from punishing mankind. But Sekhmet had developed a lust for blood as she mercilessly killed her enemies, and refused from stopping her wave of destruction. In response to Sekhmet's refusal, monsters and minor gods were sent to combat Sekhmet in hopes of stopping her, but every attempt ended in defeat. In need for advice, Ra called upon the counsil of Thoth, and a plan was formed. Thoth told mankind to hide away for some time if they wished to survive, and he ordered that several kegs of beer be dyed red and scattered about the battlefield. Upon seeing what seemingly was blood, Sekhmet gladly lapped it all up, and soon passed out drunk. Once having awoken, she had forgotten why she there in the first place, and so traveled back home to the company of the Gods. |
