This is, in my view, a B-movie classic!  Also known as 'Plastic Nightmare' and based on a book by Richard Neely.  Wolfgang Peterson (Outbreak, Das Boot) is the man behind this hour and a half long film, directing, producing and writing the screenplay.  It stars, as you can see to the left, Tom Berenger (Platoon, Major League), Greta Scacchi (Emma) and Bob Hoskins (Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hook).
I saw this film many, many moons ago when i was a young underage lass and i thought it was fantosstic!  So much so that i spent the next few years huntin the film down.  Now this was in the days before you could buy online and such things, so when the wonderful BBC decided to show it, i was there at some ungodly hour of the morning sittin by my VCR ready to press record.
Its difficult to explain the storyline to this film without giving too much away.  So here we go:  Dan Merrick and his wife are in a terrible car accident, shes escapes with minor injuries but Dan...well he wasn't such a lucky chappy and has to undergo many months of reconstructive surgery etc..  Dan also now has anmesia and can't remember much about his personal life.  On his return back home from hospital he finds photos of his wife with another man and is contacted by a P.I. he supposedly hired before his accident.  Dan re-hires the P.I. in an attempt to find out about his past and what happened on the night of his accident.
'Shattered' is a fantosstic film, the actual storyline is ingenius.  In many of this style of psychological thriller the ending are often either unsatisfiying or couldn't be more obvious if it came running down your road in a pink fluffy outfit and crashed through your door yellin' 'Hi! I'm the rather poor conclusion to this film!'  But 'Shattered' actually gives a fantosstic twistfilled ending that is hugely satisfying.  Plus throughout the film your given hints, through flashes of memories experienced by Dan and wierd day dreams.
The way in which we are given different views on the events from various peeps involved is very good as well.  For example, Judith Merricks affair is seem as something that was bound to happen according to one person because Dan treated her bad.  Yet someone else see it as Judith being a manipulkative bitch.
The soundtrack is brilliant and gives each scene a feel of the inevitable, once the music kicks in you just know something is gonna happen.  Music was done by Alan Silvestri (Judge Dredd, Predator) and additional music was done by Ashley Irwin (Spy Hard, Nightmare on Elm Street 6).
Some final points about the film.  The sex scenes!  I did say this was very much a B-movie and well the sex scenes live up to that.  Brilliant but VERY cheesy with the editing between and with rolling and crashin waves with the orgasmic groans and enough bare flesh on show to getkeep your attention.  Like i said so cheesy but entertaining nevertheless.
One thing i noticed in this film was how white the whotes on people eyes were, it just something i noticed dunno whether its really significant but it gave certain people a more crazed look in my opinion which i thought was cool.
Anyways thats about it, unfortuneately what with this being a rather unheard of film i've not been able to get any pics from the film succesfully, so if you know where i can get my paws on some do tell.  If you click on the video cover it'll take you to amazon where you can get the film on video and stuff.
