There is very rarely a film i hate or dislike, but out of all the remaining films that i like some stand out. Some of them i may have only seen once but they made such an impact i thought about them for a long while after. This page shows some of those films as well as ones which i like alot but aren't my absolute favourites. If you get the chance to see any of these films, as some are either banned or are just hard to get hold of, then see them i like them and think their worth a look. So here we go, i've tried to avoid putting in anything that'll ruin the storyline for those of you that haven't see any of these films. |

I have only ever seen this film once, but i found it so moving i haven't been able to bring myself to go and see it again. It stars Chole Sevigny (Kids, American Psycho) and Hilary Swank (who won an oscar for her role in this film). It's based on a true story about a woman who believes she meant to be a man and so she dresses and acts like a man. As always happens, she falls in love. Everyones happy until people start to find out that she is really a he and then horrible things happen to her. But her love stands by her. This film will reduce you to tears so take some tissues, if your anything like me and cry at the slightest thing in films take the whole box! |

The only reson i originally watched this film was because people kept saying to me 'ya know you remind of that girl in that film Carrie' so one day i decided 'thats it i have to see this film and see what these people are going on about!' So i bought the video and watched it and the film spoke to me i sat there cheering for Carrie to kill them all, i loved this film! After watching it serveral times i read the book, and the book, as always, is way WAY superior to the movie. Carries' motivations and the ending in the book are better than in the film, they really got that wrong when they transfered it to the big screen and that diminshed my view of the film quite dramatically. I still enjoy and like the film, DePalma is a great director, but after reading the book it just isn't as good as it used to be. The basic storyline is that Carrie is the school outsider and the reciever of the populars girls jokes until one day she discovers she has telekinetic powers. When something bad happens at the prom Carrie snaps and is out for revenge. An interesting fact: De Palma's prioir film to this, 'Phamtom of the Paradise', Sissy Spacek was actually working on the film as a set dresser! |
This is Wes Craven first ever film which he both wrote and directed, it was banned in alot of countries for a while and is still banned here in Britain, although it carries a members certificate. In June 2000 myself and some firends went to 'Splatterfest' a seventies horror day at the Electric cinema (the cinema i go to alot, click on the death Laa Laa at the bottom of this page to go to their website) and they showed this film along with 'Texas chainsaw massacre'. To find out about my day at splatterfest click on the label pic at the bottom of this page. Again i have only ever seen this film once, what with it being a banned film and all, but this film was horrific! It was so distrubing that at one point in the film i was crying. This is classed as a horror movie but you'll never see another horror movie like it, this film goes beyond catergorising. It covers everything, it's thought provoking, funny, sad, gory, sick, twisted and any other adjectives you want to add. This film gives you alot to think about and shows that right from the word go Wes Craven was a great director. The caption on the poster to the left reads, cos it's hard to see the whole thing: 'To avoid fainting keep repeating to yourself, it's only a movie, it's only a movie...' and thats exactly what you'll have to do to keep from having a nervous breakdown when you see this film. Go on go see it, GO BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT!!!! Note: Last House has been given a UK release on video & DVD since i wrote this, yay!!! |

The scariest thing about this film is Hannibal Lecter. Even in the prequel to this 'Manhunter' were Lecter was played by a different actor the same traits shine though. By the end of this film you like Lecter, you're think he isn't such a bad guy becasue he's so polite, charming and well educated. But afterwards when your thinking about the film you realise that he's a psychopath he's killed numerous people and you were ready to have him meet your parents! The rest of the film is good but the parts with Lecter in are the best bits, it's the whole Lecter subplot bits that keeps the film moving and keeps your interest. Some scenes in this film are just classic, i won't spoil it for those that haven't see this film by going into detail, but that ambulance scene is just the greatest! The basic storyline is that theres a serial killer 'Buffalo Bill' and the FBI are having trouble catching him, so they look to captured psychopath Hannibal Lecter for help, but even with Lecters help will they be able to catch Bill before he takes another vicitm? I haven't read the book yet, in fact i haven't read any of 'the silence of the lambs' series. But this is still a good film and worth seeing, just cos we love Lecter so much. Manhunter, the prequel, is good but not on the same level as 'silence of the lambs'. If you watch the two film one after the other you will notice alot of similarities even though it's a different cast and director etc.. |
