The Helix Alumni Band is the perfect name for us because it bears no further explanation.  We were members of the Helix Highlander Band during our years at Helix High School (La Mesa, CA), and that's pretty much our deal.  We're comprised mostly of recent graduates from the mid 1990's to present, but we welcome anyone who would like to join up with us.  In fact, we recently took a vote and decided that people from other high schools who don't play musical instruments can join, as well.  It's a pretty random group, but we enjoy music, oddity and each other.

We also enjoy Johnny B's Burgers & Brew.  Johnny B & Mrs. B, if you're reading this... WE LOVE YOU!! SPONSOR US!!

Wow, that was shameless.  Let's hope it worked.  Anyway, we gather together once a year to march (and by march, we mean stand on a flatbed trailer being pulled by a truck) in the annual La Mesa Flag Day Parade.  Flag Day is a great experience that includes (but is not limited to, obviously) fun music, fun people and roaring crowds.  What more could you want in a Saturday?

Just as the Flag Day Parade is low maintenance, so is the group.  It's really a family operation, so we'd like to thank members of the family who help us even though there's literally nothing in it for them.
-The Jones boys.  Jerry and Chris are the owners and operaters of
Sidestage Screen Printing.  They
hooked us up with some awesome t-shirts.  You can see us wearing them in the
2005 section.  We'd
also like to thank the third Jones boy, Evan, for being our in-house representative!

-Our main man, Mr. Chris Gauger, Alumni Band Dad, who keeps us rolling.  Mr. Gauger hooks us up
with his trailer and has taken time out of his busy schedule to drive us through the parade.  If it
weren't for him, we might actually have to march.  Mr. Gauger, you're tops in our book.

-Our main woman, Mrs. Janice Murdock, Alumni Band Mom, who has given us materials, labor and
incredibly undeserved praise.  When our "float" was nothing but streamers wrapped around a flatbed
trailer, she got us an official alumni band sign.  When we needed a last-minute driver, she was on it.

-Our other main man, Mr. Keith Murdock, Alumni Band Dad, who has also jumped into the driver seat
for us when he could've been riding his skateboard.  What else can be said?

-And last but not least, Mr. Sperling, the big red man.  From loaning us instruments to letting us raid
the music library, he's always been happy to help wherever he could, and only minimally makes fun of
      our indiscretions.  We appreciate it!
