Hi, and welcome to the Egyptian Timer replica page.  I hope that I can be of some assistance in your pursuit of building a working timer prop. First I would like to give you some backround on my timer and how I built it. Let me just say that it does not count down (yet). Although it is just a hollow shell I feel it looks exactly like the real one. So without futher adew I give you my timer and how it was built.
In these first couple of pics I tried to take pics close to that of Temperal Flux's real timer prop to show you the accuracy with which I built my timer

Here are some more pics of my timer. I built my timer out of the RCA remote and my keypad is from Grayhill. For my keypad I used 6- 2x1 keypads and glued them together. Then I cut out 12 squares of mylar and printed numbers on tranparacy film to get the desired affect (and I have to say it looks perfect). The face plate if red transparent plastic I got off of a clock at Target. The scarab is homemade.  The silver is speckled aluminum and the scarab is grey binder plastic.  The red cap is the top to a straw cap.  The emmiters are made out of those things on A/V cables and the domes are the rubber feet from Radio Shack.
