'79 Blazer

This was our 1979 Blazer we had nicknamed Hellraiser. This was our 3rd 4 wheeler but the one we really experimented on and built from a stock truck to a heavily wheeled daily driver.  We bought it in Dec 1995, we were the 2nd owners on it and it was as stock as stock can get. It was the original brown and had the original 305 that still ran pretty good. By Feb 1996 we had painted it and went on our first wheeling trip which encouraged us to lift it and make some minor mod's. About 2 weeks later it had a 3" body lift and 35" BFG Mud Terrains. October 1996 we managed to blow up the 305 and replaced it with a 283, which was supposed to be a temorary motor. We ended up running that motor for a year and a half, most of the time it knocked. In May 1997 the tranny went out and we had decided it was time for a suspension upgrade to 3/4 ton. We put in a new T350 tranny, NP203 transfer case with a part-time kit, GM Coporate 14 bolt from a 2 wheel drive truck with 4.10:1 gears, 4" rancho springs, tire rack, KC light bar with 2 KC lights, Warn classic winch bumper, new grill, mudflaps with removeable mudflaps, different seats front and rear. After our first trip out we bent the brand new bumper and replaced it with a hand built solid steel bumper and added a Warn 8000 lb winch. The next year we went through 5 or 6 transmissions and lots and lots of scraped knuckles. We also traded out the tired 283 for a nice fresh 400 small block we purchased for $200. The summer of 1998 we found a donor truck, a 1981 3/4 ton p/u with just a cab and running gear under it, for $50. That supplied us with our 3/4 ton front end, a GM Corporate 10 bolt, and our truck was finally full 3/4 ton. In Nov of 1998 we purchased a set of 38.5" swampers. Sad to note after purchasing the yellow truck we sold this one for lack of interest anymore. It was sold September 1st, 2000. I have kept track of where it is and do go visit it for sentimental reasons.
The same night I posted this I ran into someone who had bought my old beast. He paided $900 for it and used the running gear in his Suburban. He did what I didn't have the heart too, part it out and use it properly.  From what I have been told its a sad sight to see it all gutted and ready for the junk yard.

At one time we had 2 Blazers that looked almost identical. Hellraiser II was a '77 with a 4" suspension lift, 400 cid small block, T350 tranny, NP203, 33" tires. We bought it for $500 dropped a motor in it and never could get it to run on its own due to a water and rust filled gas tank. Lost interest in it and sold it.
