Dear Ms. Greer,

For the past 3 years I have been an avid shopper at your store. Until recently I had been very satisfied with your products and overall appearance of your store. At my last visit to your store I noticed a disgusting change- the selling of guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, and tropical birds!

I am against the selling of animals in pet shops. Statistics have proven that the majority of people who purchase low maintenance pets, i.e. gerbils, hamsters, etc.. become bored or tired of their pet with in months. The owner feels no obligation to care for this animal any more. What normally happens is that the owner sets the pet free! 100% of these tame, household pets die within days of their release. These careless owners expect these animals such as cockatoos, parakeets, and hamsters to fend for themselves out in nature. But this never happens and the animal either becomes prey for a larger creature, or the pets dies from starvation.

This is a sad scenario in my opinion. Do you realize that the state of Illinois requires the owner of a ferret to purchase a permit from their city in order to keep the ferret? Do you advise your customers of this law that requires them to purchase a permit? Do your employees check to see that the owners have purchased a permit before they buy the ferret?

Because your store has been reduced to selling animals I will no longer shop there. I will also urge my friends and relatives to do the same. I hope you understand my point of view. Thank you for listening to you customers opinion. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. President:

I understand that you are thinking of getting a dog. If this is true, please do the right thing (and save a life) by adopting one from a shelter. Also, please take this opportunity to make a statement on behalf of all animals in shelters, urging others to do the same. Purchasing from pet stores and breeders perpetuates the ongoing abuse caused by puppy and kitten mills as well as unlicensed breeders selling sick and malnourished animals.

Every animal that is purchased from a pet shop or breeder represents another animal who must die in a shelter and helps to feed the greed of those running illegal animal businesses.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Dear Sir or Madam:

The generic equivalent of the drug Premarin was denied approval on May 5, 1997 (docket No. 97N-0325). Duramed, the company which makes the generic drug, has announced that they will appeal. Please reverse your decision. Not only would the drug be more accessible for consumers, but it would also stop the suffering of many animals. Premarin contains horse urine, while the Duramed drug is plant-derived. Horses are continually abused to add this unnecessary ingredient to Premarin.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Michael Sandlin Tiger Truck Stop
P.O. Box 424
Grosse Tete, LA 70740
fax: 504-648-2935

Dear Mr. Sandlin,

The Tiger Truck Stop has two gas stations in Louisiana, right off the interstate. At both locations a tiger is kept in a concrete and iron cage, exposed to constant exhaust fumes, noise, and traffic. The owner of the business has ignored repeated requests to place the animals in accredited sanctuaries.

I am asking you to please remove these abused animals from the truck stops. Keeping these wild creatures locked up is both inhumane and unethical. Using them for financial gain, with no regard to their health and well being, is cruel and unusual punishment for crimes they have never committed!

These poor animals are probably going insane due to their constant confinement and lack of exercise. This is no way for an innocent animal to be treated. I urge you to do all that you can to get the tigers away from the truck stop and into an animal sanctuary where they will be properly cared for.

Until these majestic beasts are removed from these establishments, I will buy my gas elsewhere and urge everyone I see buying gas to do the same thing.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response. I hope that torturing animals is not the way you will choose to go.

Sincerely,

Sam Haynes,
8475 Florida Blvd.,
Baton Rouge, LA 70806

Dear Sam Haynes,

I urge you to help take Candy out of confinement. Candy is a chimpanzee who has languished - alone - in a concrete and iron cage at the Fun Fair Park in Baton Rouge, LA for thirty years. Photos of Candy's cage show discarded soda cups and cigarette butts. I am asking that you release Candy to a sanctuary so she can live out her remaining years in comfort with her own kind, for the first time in her life.

Animals were not put on this earth for human entertainment purposes. Candy is an innocent creature who never did a thing wrong in her life. Why does she deserve to live worse than a convicted murder; in complete agony and torment?

Please free Candy so that by the time she dies she will have know freedom.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Aspen Chamber Resort Association

Dear Sir or Madam:

I understand that "snow polo," where horses, who are forced to wear 2-inch spiked shoes slip and slide across frozen lakes, will be introduced to Aspen in December. This is by no means a sport, but a cruel form of animal abuse.

Please stop the city's plans for these abusive events immediately. Until then, I will not be visiting your city, and I will urge others to do the same.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Dear Fiona,

Thank you for recently requesting the Hard Rock Cafe to make a donation to PETA. They are a great organization, as I'm sure you know. As the largest animal rights group in the world, with over 500,000 members, they have done countless great things for animals since their formation in 1980.

I hope you will continue to help animals by supporting PETA. Thank you again.

Dear Mr. Morgan:

Please stop using Marlboro cigarette ads which glorify rodeos and cattle ranching. These ads depict "macho" cowboys "taming" bucking horses and dragging bawling calves by ropes around their necks. Not shown in the ads, however, are the broken bones, bruises, and internal hemorrhages suffered by animals used in those ways.

Animal-unfriendly ads do not go over well with consumers by any means. By using ads that show more respect and compassion for animals, you could win over many more people.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

Ivan Hofman, President
Coraopolis, PA 15108

Dear Mr. Hofman:

I recently saw your company's ad featuring a dog, and the caption `If you can't teach the old dog new tricks, get a new dog.' This encourages cruel treatment of animals. I don't think that a dog on death row at a shelter, or a stray digging through trash cans for his next meal would find it so amusing.

Animal-unfriendly ads do not go over well with consumers by any means. If your company were to use ads which show respect and compassion for animals, you would win many more people over. Please promote the humane treatment of animals, and put an end to these degrading ads.

Thank you for your time, and I look forward to your response.

I was recently very disturbed by your company's ad featuring a cow and the caption `The only one who can beef about our natural browning ovens.'

Dear Mr. Milner:

I was recently very disturbed by your company's ad featuring a "hog-tied" calf's legs and the caption, `The most dependable fishing line in the world.' I am sure that the fish, the calf, and thousands of gulls, pelicans, ducks, and geese destined to become entangled in discarded filament are very happy about that.

Animal-unfriendly ads do not go over well with consumers by any means, and your company could win over many more people with ads which show respect and compassion for animals. Please stop using these ads immediately.

Judge Mathew Robins
Room 304
DeKalb County Courthouse
556 N. McDonough Street
Decatur, GA 30030-3356

Dear Judge Robins,

I understand that Sue McCrosky has been sentenced to 6 months, for one count of simple trespassing at the Yerkes Primate Center last Lab Animal Day in April. The judge picked her out of a crowd in a courtroom, passed by a dozen defendants and said: "You're Sue McCrosky, right? We'll try you right now!"

Within hours, a stunned courtroom watched her unprepared lawyers fail to stop jury selection, presentation of evidence and a conviction by jury. The judge refused to excuse himself.

I would like to inquire to Sue's health, condition, medication, and treatment. Please write me back stating how Sue is feeling and whether or not she is being cared for properly.

I urge you to allow Sue McCrosky her freedom. She has served her punishment long enough. Sue received an unfair penalty for such a minor crime. No lives were at stake. In this case I do not believe that the punishment fits the crime.

Sue McCrosky was trying to help the lives of innocent creatures who were being tortured to death my experimentation. It is in my opinion that what she did was morally correct!

Sincerely,

Dear Ms. McCrosky,

You don't know me, but I have heard of your efforts to save the animals. I would just like to thank you for all you have done to rescue distressed animals from laboratories. You are a very kind hearted individual. There should be more people like you in the world. I myself am an involved animal rights supporter.

Even though at the moment it may seem like all hope is lost, I encourage you not to give up. Don't ever loose faith and always keep believing. I think of you and how awful it must be to stay secluded from the outside world all the time. My prayers are with you.

I would like to add that I have written a letter to Judge Robins asking for your release. Who knows what may become of this situation. Keep your spirits up and always think about the animals. They can not speak for themselves so we must speak for them.

Sincerely,
