Child In Slumber

On this night the floors I pace
As I gaze on your angelic face
For while I dare to watch you sleep
Your sweet innocence causes me to weep
I pull you close to suckle my breast
but you continue with your rest
And while I wait for you to wake
it is this promise to you I make
For I will cradle you in my arms
to protect you from life's many harms
As your mother my life I would give,
so you my beautiful child should live.
