Effective Hemorrhoids Prevention

The very best way to prevent hemorrhoids is to keep stools soft so they pass easily, thus decreasing the pressure and strain on the anus and rectum.   You should attempt to empty your bowels as soon as possible once the urge occurs.

Exercise, including walking, and an increase of fiber in your diet will help reduce any constipation or straining by producing stools that are soft and easier to pass.  You should begin drinking six to eight glasses of fluids (not alcohol) a day.

Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.  In addition to these foods, doctors may suggest you ingest a bulk stool softener or a fiber supplement, such as psyllium (Metamucil) or methylcellulose (Citrucel).  Increasing your fiber intake is so effective in preventing hemorrhoids, in fact, that many doctors declare that adding fiber to the diet is the only necessary prevention for about half of all hemorrhoid cases.

Exercising good anal care will help reduce both hemorrhoidal itching and aid in prevention.  Residual fecal matter will often keep the area around the anus moist, but vigorous wiping with toilet paper usually only results in increased irritation.  If you already feel irritated, wipe the anal area after each bowel movement with paper moistened with warm water.

Avoid stress and heavy lifting as well.

If you already have hemorrhoids, though, learning how to prevent them may not be immediately useful to you.  There are treatments available that will greatly sooth your discomfort.  Click on this link--hemorrhoids treatments--to learn more.
