Burning At Frankfurt

Another Midnight Beat release, this one recorded in Frankfurt, Germany, on January 17, 1969. Starting of with the only live recording of Come On I've heard or heard about being done in concert. There are probably more, but it's new to me. Red House is good, as it always is. There's an extended version of I Don't Live Today, nearly 10 minutes long, featuring Jimi going nuts on the guitar. A good version of Little Wing, though it gets distorted due to the mike being too close to the speakers (at least it sounds like that to me). There's a pretty decent Sunshine Of Your Love as well, though it's not the best version I've heard. There are a few bars of Hear My Train Coming played by Jimi just before it though, and a song list from that concert shows HMT as being played, not sure if they are counting the few bars as a performance or not. Hey Joe, and Purple Haze close this CD, though according to that song listing, Voodoo Child (Slight Return) actually closed this concert. It isn't here on this CD however.

Sound quality is average to good for an audience recording, though a little muffled and hollow sounding. The vocals are distorted some, and very hard to hear at some points. Possible the recording was done from the P.A. monitors, rather than the amplifiers. But it's still a better sounding and played concert than some I have in my collection.
