Justine moves into the next round very smoothly after defeating Mirosleva Vavrinec.

Wednesday 29th August 2001 (2nd Round)

Justine battled against a very strong Patty Schnyder on Wednesday. The match was so exciting I was on the edge of my seat! Welldone Justine for surviving. Reminded me of some of Steffi Graf's matches I have watched in the past, no one since Steffi could get me so on edge but Justine has made me feel like that again! A brilliant match.

Henin Dismantles Irvin by Aaron Rennie Monday, August 27, 2001 Sixth seed Justine Henin of Belgium easily defeated American Marissa Irvin in straight sets in their first-round match. Henin broke Irvin's serve in both the opening and closing games of the first set and twice more in the second set. Irvin could only muster one break of Henin's service in two sets.
