PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Serve as Hardware and General Engineer providing direct maintenance and operational support to the Audiovisual equipment, conference/studio facilities and video projects within the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications and for the Audiovisual Program Development Branch (APDB) of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus.

• Provide expert engineering design and development for digital and High Definition (HD) video production, post production, transmission, storage, and distribution systems.
• Provide both short and long-range plans for implementing cutting edge audio and video technologies in support of customer projects, exhibits, and research driven medical informatics programs.
• Recommend and procure hardware solutions and work with third-party contractors for installation and integration of equipment.
• Document systems using text and drawings (VIDCAD, AutoCAD).
• Create reports and presentations detailing existing systems and proposed solutions and upgrades to the customer.
• Coordinate the installation and upgrade of systems with third-party vendors including maintaining service contracts and maintenance agreements.
• Work with a team of production engineers to integrate new audiovisual technologies, including video over IP, High Definition video servers.
• Provide engineering support to high-definition graphics suites and animation suites utilizing 2-GB Ethernet and fiber networks, and remote processor render farms.

Systems Engineer on large IT program supporting US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Served as principal member of Engineering Department of this 320 person LMC (Lockheed Martin Corporation) program to provide all IT services to HUD. Functioned to identify and develop network changes and enhancements to keep HUD systems up-to-date. Installed new software on HUD user computers. Researched, evaluated and tested numerous PC-based hardware and software products for HUD. Reported all test results to customer. Functioned as member of rapid-response troubleshooting team to solve difficult PC and network-based problems when front-line team unable to resolve issues; some problems required out-of-area travel. Provided on-site and remote technical assistance to end-users and technical staff.

• Installed, configured, and performed emergency repairs at component level to CISCO CatOS switches 6509, 4009, 2948.
• Proactively monitor and maintain network systems to include installation, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities.
• Exploit the latest proprietary and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) products such as NetlQ's End2End and Lucent's Vital Suite.
• Authored detailed yet clear studies for customers and management to outline design and implementation impact on network while facilitating short- and long-range strategic development.
• Create cost-benefit analyses to provide upgrade estimations and ensure maximum return on investment.
• Identified and corrected entrenched deficiencies with computer input/output requirements and storage deveices.
• Served as lead engineer; designed network changes at HUD to include move from Token Ring to Ethernet.
• Spearheaded complete migration of 4000 HUD desktop PCs from Windows 95/98/2K to Windows XP.

Provided comprehensive technical support for the National Museum of American History. Installed computer network for Audiovisual Services Department. Performed all necessary repairs on departmental computers. Conducted regular preventative maintenance of electromechanical systems. Designed and set up audiovisual components of exhibits requiring specialized lighting and audiovisual services. Responsible for setting up audio-visual equipment for Presidential Inaugural Ball and other special events. Performed repairs to electronic equipment at component level.

Perform repairs to wide range of electrical and electro-mechanical consumer and medical equipment, including VCRs, televisions, telephone answering machines, cassette recorders, home and commerical stereo systems, computer monitors and video projectors; repairs made at component level. Serve as shop supervisor when needed. Design and manufacture circuitry to repair extensive damage or when parts are no longer made.
