Samwise (Sam) Gamgee
This here is Samwise Gamgee.  He is known as Sam to most people.  Sam is Frodo's dearest friend and the closest thing  to pure love and innocence you can get. 

Sam sets out with Frodo at the beginning of The Lord of tne Rings and stays by his side right through to the end.  He was appointed to go with Frodo by Gandalf when he caught Sam eavesdropping outside the window at Bag End.

Had Frodo wanted to get rid of Sam on the Quest,  I sincerely doubt he could have.  Sam even became a Ring Bearer for a short period of time.

Through the book, Sam goes through many ordeals.  He befriends a pony named Bill, he goes throught the mines of Moria, and fights a Giant Spider.

But no matter what he goes through, or what he must deal with, he stays with Frodo to finish what they set out to do.

Sam also has a great fondness for Elves due to all the stories that old Bilbo told him when he was young.

In the movies, Sam is played by Sean Astin (see above) who, by the way, does an excellent job.
