Why do people write histories?

Self Disclosure
  To Leave a Legacy
  To Enhance Memory
   To Set the Record Straight

You are probably familiar with Charles Dickens story about Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.  Although the ghosts are fictional, Dickens intended us to ask ourselves what similar visits might reveal about our own characters.  What will be our fate and the fate of those we love if we continue to live as we are now doing?
I am Lois Kullberg.  I've taught classes in genealogy and history writing for more than 20 years.  I also enjoy teaching young people about their family histories.
My favorite activity is teaching people how easy and fun it is to write their life's story.  I like to make crafts related to family history and sing with The Marshallaires at retirement homes.  I am now learning computer embroidery.  Other activities I like are gardening--especially flowers, photography--out of doors, using a computer for as many applications as I can learn and doing volunteer and church work.
I wrote a history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( LDS) in Oregon and Southwestern Washington from 1852 to 1998 called
Saints to the Columbia..  I also wrote a family history called Leaves of Brown which included all the descendants of Vantile Mac Brown and Caroline Sophie Christiansen of Alberta Canada and Utah USA  I have developed my own organizer system for managing genealogy records.  The countries I descend from are:  Sweden, Great Britain, Denmark, and Scotland.  My mother was born a Canadian.
One of the reasons you should write a history is because you are a bridge between the past and the future.  You are the one who was alive when the new millennium began.  In years to come your posterity will remember you as if you were the first of a new line, so your name will become more than just a recitation of dates and places.

My husband and I have a blended family of nine children and 25 grandchildren.  We live in the Pacific Northwest.  We have some really great family activities.   Ask me about planning a family reunion
The picture you see at the right is of Bridal Veil Falls in Utah.  One time my husband, myself, two sons and a friend were stuck in a gondola car, just 100 feet from the top, where we swung  in the breeze for an hour while they went to get fuel for an emergency generator.
