Our Big Man Spike

We adopted spike when he was 7 years old.  He had been turned over to a rescue agency and needed a good home.  Our friend who was helping at the rescue called us when she heard that a doberman was coming in.  We met spike that night and knew when we saw him that we wanted to give him a home.  He was underweight and  in bad shape but I could see in his eyes that he was a good dog.  So we brought him home and introduced him to my other doberman Codie.  They became friends and we nursed spike back to health.  For 2 years he filled our lives with joy and happyness...even though he could be very mischeivous at times.  He always met me at the door with a grin and never left my side when I was at home.  Most of the time he would be in you face holding his giggle ball wanting me to play with him....or he as was gurading his bones while I tried to "steal" them away.  We had to put spike down because of a herniated disk that he never recovered from.  After a month of nursing him and carrying him outside to do his business(he couldn't stand or walk) Nikki and I felt that his quality of life was non existand and we were keeping him around for our comfort...not his.

We still miss him dearly and he will always be a part of our lives.  We valued the time that we had with him and wouldn't trade it for the world.   May you rest in peace spike...We love you.

Spike with is giggle ball ready for you to fight with him to get it.  This was his favorite toy and would walk around the house sqeeking it.  Most of the time right in your face to make you play with him..

Our big man asleep on his blanket.  Funny thing is that he wouldn't lay on the floor without it.
