If things were up to me: Television would be for entertainment purposes only and could contain the usual crap content that it does now, minus any attempt at what passes for "news".
In order to tap the "news" one would have to be able to read and access any newspaper or magazine which could contain the same sort of crap content it already does now including any news stories or propaganda it habitually prints.
In an Emergency that actually affects some segment of the population TV could broadcast lifesaving emergency news to that portion of the country or community (like an emergency weather crawl). If the rest of the country or world wanted to know about it they could read about it or hear about it via telephone or by word of mouth or pony express.
The segment of the population without a significant clue would not be given free ideas in which to indulge their fevered but limited imaginations. They could still try all the stuff on Jack Ass and perhaps off themselves in the process, thus proving Darwin's theory and making my day. |
