Dear Parents,
Teachers and Students:
Boy,
where did those dog days of summer go? We can’t believe we’re starting yet
another year! We hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing and fun-filled
summer and are refreshed and ready for all the activities and programs planned
for the upcoming year.
First, heartfelt
congratulations to the new Mrs. Powers (Ms. Malone), Mrs. Broderick (Ms. Lavin),
Mrs. Altman (Ms. Plasencia) and Mrs. Pastilio (Ms. Lenahan), who all
celebrated their nuptials over the summer. We wish you all good fortune as
you embark on this new chapter in your lives!
And warm wishes to
Mrs. Spencer (or should we say Grandma) and her family on the arrival of the
newest member of the Spencer clan, Colin John Schooler, who made his grand
entrance on July 6th.
WOW!!! Everyone
give themselves a huge round of applause for the Hewitt playground.
The
kids
have all
voted “thumbs” up! This was only possible because of the commitment,
generosity and hard
work
of the Hewitt community. You should all be very proud of yourselves. But, we
can’t fail to mention and
say a huge “THANK YOU” to our very own Mr. Bob Healy who kept vigilant
guard through the wee hours of the
night ensuring that the equipment and surfacing was not ruined until the
installation was complete. Another cup
of coffee, Bob?
Bicycle
Safety Day has been scheduled for Monday, September 8th. This day
is enjoyed by our third, fourth and fifth graders who get the opportunity to
take their wheels to school. Thanks to Dianne Robinson and the Recreation
Center for coordinating this fun-filled day. See enclosed flyer for further
information.
This
year the Hewitt Fair (10/19) is clicking its heels and moving on down the
yellow brick road as
it
visits
“Emerald City”. We are all looking forward to another magical Hewitt Fair
experience and wish to thank
Jenn
O’Brien, Karin Ryan and the rest of their Munchkin Committee who have
made a huge commitment with long hours of planning and creativity. Please see
enclosed flyer regarding volunteering your time at the fair and becoming part
of this great team!
Congratulations to
Andrew Caccavale (creator of the
Hewitt web-site & former Hewitt parent) on yet another award for our site, the
“EduNET Choice Award” which is bestowed upon sites that "provide and maintain
valuable educational content". And three cheers for Peter Garcia who
has graciously agreed to take over the reins from Andy so that we can continue
to get important information to our community. Check us out @
http://www.oocities.org/hewittpta.
What can’t we live
without? Our PTA Directories or course! Fortunately thanks to the
orchestration of our 1st Vice Presidents, Mayda Kramer and Tracy
Lawless, and to our PTA Directory chair Julie Cracovaner we will once again
have this very necessary tool. We encourage all families to fill out the
directory information sheet at Back-to-School night so that we can get these
Directories to everyone as soon as possible
And speaking of
orchestration, Mayda & Tracy can handle a whole symphony orchestra as is
evidenced by their accomplishing the difficult task of sifting through names,
researching past appointments and finally designating our “Class Parent”
positions all while planning a welcome back luncheon for our teachers. Thank
you! Thank you!
Once again we wish
to thank Alison Carey, for coordinating the official Hewitt T-Shirt Order.
Please see flyer attached if you need to order a new T-Shirt required for
school trips.
While we’re
ordering things, be sure to place your Fall Flower orders (click
here to see the
attached flyer). And finally, be on the look out for our “Gift
Wrap Sale” info which benefits our current fifth grade.
Our first PTA
meeting will be held in the gym on Thursday, September 4th. The
New Parent Welcome Reception will start at 7:00pm for all kindergarten and new
parents to Hewitt. Our kindergarten teachers have made themselves available
for an informal discussion to answer any questions you may have about your
child’s first days.
We will continue
with our general PTA meeting at 8:00pm. Our first meeting is a great
opportunity to meet with the Hewitt community and begin forging new
friendships by becoming involved. It’s also a great time to join the PTA. We
are striving for 100% participation by all, including Dads! (We have enclosed
a membership form for your convenience, which can be completed and sent into
school or brought to Back-to-School Night or the PTA meeting.) We hope to see
all of you there as we begin our 2003/2004 year at Hewitt, and look forward to
working with all of you to make this an enjoyable and rewarding year!
Check the
mail…your invitation to the Art Auction (10/3)
should be arriving any day now! Last year was a blast so mark your calendars
