Status in Singapore: Very rare
Habitat : In parks and open areas near nature reserves.

 

Description :  The male of the Golden Royal is shining blue with broad black costal and distal borders on both wings, whilst the female is duller with the blue confined to the wing bases.  The undersides are a rich golden yellow with the forewing unmarked and the hindwing with two pairs of white-tipped tails. 

Habitat & habits : This lowland species is described to be very rare and is as often seen in gardens as it is in the forest.  Thus far, we have observed this species only once in Singapore - a pristine female which appears to have recently eclosed nearby.
