Episode Two

Heaven Falls Police Department

Mike sat at his desk, going over reports. He had been at work for a few hours, but he was having trouble conventrating. Jamie had never lied to him, but something told him he wasn't getting the whole truth this time. He tossed down a file with a grunt of disgust.

"What's wrong?" Rebecca Harris, a fellow officer and Mike's fiancee, said.

"Jamie. He was hours late getting home, then he told me he got mugged, but he wouldn't let me check him out to see if he's okay," Mike replied.

"Did he seem okay?" Rebecca asked, concerned.

"Yeah, a little tired and shaken, but okay."

"Then what's the problem?"

"I get the feeling he was hiding something from me," Mike replied with a sigh. "I just don't know what."

"Jamie's a good kid. He'll tell you if it's important," Rebecca answered. "If you want, I'll ask David what happened last night."

"Yeah, he should have," Mike said. "I didn't even think of that. Where the hell was David when Jamie got mugged?"

"Jamie probably got bored and left early, but he didn't want to make David and Laura have to leave."

The Bodega

"Oh baby, baby, how was I suppose to know?" Theresa Montoya sang as she bounced down the aisles of her family's store. "That something wasn't right here. Oh baby, baby, I shouldn't have let you go!"

Diego, Theresa's older brother, grimaced as he sat on a stool behind the counter. "Why did Mama buy her that CD?" he asked his other sister, Maria.

Maria laughed. "It was either a Britney Spears CD or a Eminem," she said. Then she shuddered. "Our baby sister has weird taste!"

"Maria, sweetie, are you just realizing this?" Diego replied with a laugh. "Hey, weren't you going skating with Jamie today?"

"He's suppose to meet me here at 10," Maria said.

"It's almost 10:30," Diego said, pointing at the clock.

Maria looked, frowning. "He needs to get a decent watch," she muttered as she grabbed the phone. "Jamie, get your lazy rear out of bed and over to the Bodega! You're a half hour late, boy," she said. Then she hung up. "Answering machine. He'll hurry his ass over quicker if he knows he has to explain why he's late when he gets here."

Diego chuckled. "When is he gonna learn to not be late when he's meeting you?"

"The chances of that happening are the same as the chances of us winning the lottery," Maria replied.

Grant Mansion

Aaron Grant sat at the long dining room table, eating a late breakfast, when his mother, Miranda, walked in. "Good morning, mother," he said.

Miranda smiled. "Good morning, Aaron. What are your plans for today?"

"Nothing really. I was thinking of surprising Maria and taking her for a drive in the country."

Miranda frowned. "She really isn't in our league, Aaron. Forget about her and find a girl worthy of you," she ordered.

"For once," Daniel Jr, Aaron's eldest brother, began, "I agree with your mother. Terrifying, isn't it?"

Aaron rolled his eyes. "I love her, plain and simple mother, Daniel," he said. "She is amazing, perfect, and mine."

"She is a poor little mexican," Daniel Jr. replied. "And most likely a gold digger! She'll milk you for evey cent she can, and then she'll dump you."

"Exactly! What about...Patricia Langton? Or Vivica DeRaines?" Miranda suggested.

"Not my type," Aaron said as he stood and walked out.

EdiSigns Offices

Toria Edison flipped through the photos on her desk, her irritation growing with every passing second. She hit the intercom button and called her secretary in. When the older woman entered, Toria steepled her fingers and glared. "Linda, would you say I have no taste and am blind?" she asked.

Linda raised an eyebrow. "Of course not, Ms. Edison. Why do you ask?"

Toria flicked one of the folders with distaste. "Because of this... merde the idiots in design sent me. They look like clothes a four year-old would design!"

Linda started straightening the files. "Do you want me to call the design team up?"

Toria was silent for a moment, thinking. "I don't know. Maybe I should just fire them all and go back to designing the clothing myself. It was easier when I didn't have to deal with those morons," she said, pouting.

"And people always loved your designs, Ms. Edison," Linda supplied, used to he employer's minor tantrums. "Afterall, they were the styles that made EdiSigns a household name," she added.

Toria smiled. "You always know what to say, Linda! Thank you."

"So, do you want me to call the design team up here?"

"No. Send them a memo saying they should take a look at the designs we've done in the past. That's what I want them to deliver, things that fit the company. Also tell them that if they don't give me what I want, they're fired," Toria answered. Linda nodded and left.

Toria rolled her eyes at the folders and dumped them in the trash as she stood and walked over to the floor to ceiling windows that comprised two walls of her spascious office. She gazed out on the town of Heaven Falls. "Home, sweet home," she whispered with a hint of scorn.

She had been the 'Class Bimbo' in high school, and had moved to New York City to get far away from her former classmates. And now she was back to show them what the class bimbo had accomplished in eight years.

Toria chuckled, anticipating the expressions on the faces of some of the particularly cruel former classmates. Afterall, she now owned and ran one of the most successful clothing design companies in the country.

"I'll show them. No one hurts Victoria Edison and gets way with it."
