Nov. 9, 1731- born to free parents in Ellicott, Maryland 1737- moved to Baltimore County, Maryland with his mother and father. Joint ownership of 100 acres between Ben and his father Robert. 1752- Ben built a clock with a wood bell that rang on hour. 1759- Robert Bannaker (Ben’s dad) died. Ben had to run daily operations on the farm. 1763- Ben bought his first book, The Bible. 1771- Ben’s life changed when the Ellicots moved on the farm. The Ellicot’s mill sent flour to Europe. Ben became close friends with the family. 1788- Ben received astronomical instruments from George Ellicot. Ben began calculating his first e-pheme-rides. 1789- He finished his first astronomical project. 1791- Ben became an assistant in the survey of Washinghton, D.C. He corresponded with Thomas Jefferson. 1792- Ben’s first almanac was published. One was published every year until 1797. 1806- Fell ill while walking home, made it home and collapsed on his couch. He died at the age of 74. |
