April Meeting The April meeting of the NorthWest Civic Association will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001 at 7:30 PM at the Burns Avenue School. Our guest speaker is Oyster Bay Town Clerk Martha Offerman. She will speak about the some of her official duties and a proposal to re-open Landia Station, on the LIRR, at Robbins Lane, Syosset. Spring Cleanup Spring is here and the Beautification Committee intends to get going with their first cleanup of the season one Saturday in April. Its good to have extra hands on board for this first cleanup as were dealing with accumulated winter litter. If youre willing to donate two or three hours, let Linda Bennett know. Your efforts will greatly improve the appearance or our community.
Illegal Parking Residents are reminded that overnight parking of commercial vehicles is prohibited on neighborhood streets. The second precinct has made several sweeps through the northwest ticketing vehicles that are in violation. Boats, uncoupled trailers and unregistered vehicles may not be left on the street at anytime. ~ Welcome Home Gladys ~ Gladys Jones spirits are high. She is now home with her family after an extended period of recuperation and rehabilitation. Were all happy to hear the news. Keep up the good work! ~ Memorial Day Parade ~ NorthWest Civic Association members will be marching behind our banner in the Memorial Day Parade on May 28. If you can join us, please let Dale know. Member Picnic Mark your calendar for Sunday, July 1. Reservations have been made for our usual picnic area at Cantiague Park. Lets repeat the great time we had the last two years! Health Fair The Civic will have a table at the Burns Avenue School Health Fair on Friday morning, April 6. Residents are welcome to attend. ~ In Sympathy ~ Our thoughts and sympathies are with Marge Sarluco on the recent loss of her husband Michael. |

McIntyre building under construction at the corner of
Prospect Avenue and Cantiague Lane. McIntyre was an innovator who pioneered demographic selection, merge/purge, and mailing lists on punched cards and computer tape. The company was the forerunner to today's Metromail Corporation. The building has been occupied by Nassau BOCES for a number of years and was purchased by them last year. If the referendum being held this week by BOCES passes, money will be provided for a badly needed facelift and maintenance. Funds will also be provided for the purchase of the Almond Building on Cantiague Rock Road. |
