The December meeting of the NorthWest
Civic Association will be held on Wednesday, December 8 at
7:30 PM at the Burns Avenue School.
Our guest speaker will be George Baptista of the Division of
Code Compliance from the Town of Oyster Bay. Mr. Baptista
will be at the meeting to discuss Town codes and complaint
procedures, not to solve specific complaints.
If you have additional questions, specific complaints or prefer
to discuss problems with the town on a personal or small group
level, a meeting can be scheduled at Town Hall with Assistant
Commissioner John Paider. Mr. Paider can be reached at
624-6237 for an appointment.
The December business meeting will be kept to a minimum.
It's the holiday season and time to relax and party. John
Russo and Linda Bennett have put their heads together to plan
another great holiday gathering. Sandwiches, potato salad,
cole slaw, lasagna and a vegetable platter will be
provided. Members need to bring desserts, beverages and
other items. In order to avoid duplication, please call
Linda Bennett at 935-0845 and let her know if you would like to
bring something for the party.

In Sympathy
Eileen Russo's sister, Louise Martin, resident of the northwest recently passed away. Alice Hayes, resident of Schiller Street since 1951, former civic member and mother of Jane Grella also recently passed away. Our sympathies are extended to both families.

Get Well Soon
Gwen Corley, who was in charge of our refreshments for years, has been ill lately. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Refreshments
Thanks to
Dorothy Ricci, Jane Grella and Charlotte Krumm for refreshments
at the November meeting.

A Helping
Hand for the Holidays
For many
years the Civic has given a helping hand to some of our neighbors
in need during the Holidays. The family that we are helping
this year consists of three adults and four children. There
are two boys ages three and five and two girls, one is less than
a year old and the other is ten.
A motion will be made at the December meeting proposing to
provide financial aid for groceries and a mall gift
certificate. Donations of money, non-perishable goods or
gifts wrapped and labeled for a child may also be brought to the
meeting or a drop off can be arranged by calling Millie Jones at
931-5174. We know, from past experience, that we can count
on the members to share with those less fortunate.

Constitutional
Changes Ratified
The proposed changes to the Constitution and By-laws were voted on at the November meeting. All passed unanimously with the exception of the proposal to extend the terms of office to two years, which passed 21 in favor with 13 opposed. The Constitution and By-laws are currently being retyped and will be available for distribution to the membership at future meetings.

Improvements at
Wycoff & W. John
Contractors for Nassau County Department of Public Works have been working on the median strip on West John Street as part of improvements proposed by the Civic Association through Legislator Ed Mangano. A catch basin has been repaired; curb cuts have been provided for the physically challenged and new concrete sidewalks with a red tint have been poured. In the spring trees and shrubs will be planted to complete the plan.

The annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held in Kennedy Park on Friday, December 3 at 7:30 PM. (Rain date - Dec.5) The event is sponsored by the Hicksville-Jericho Rotary and the Hicksville Fire Department. Our Civic has decorated one of the small trees that surround the large community tree. |
