March Meeting The March meeting of the NorthWest Civic Association will be held on Monday, March 5, 2001 at 7:30 PM at the Burns Avenue School. Our guest speaker is Glen Coves Mayor Tom Suozzi. He will speak on Glen Coves revitalization and advise us on identifying and accomplishing goals to help create a better Hicksville. From the President The February 5 civic meeting was cancelled due to a snow storm. Representatives of United Vanguard Homes were scheduled to speak on the companys application for a special use permit from the Town of Oyster Bay to construct and operate a 150-unit assisted living facility in downtown Hicksville. Several board members were able to attend the Hicksville Southwest Civic Associations meeting the next week to hear and see United Vanguards presentation. Officers from five Hicksville civics were at the meeting. Interest in the assisted care facility was expressed, but there was also considerable concern about five stories, possible parking problems and lack of a sufficient park-like setting in the area for residents of the units to enjoy. With only a 1.55 acre plot and 150 units, there would be little space left for a landscaped sanctuary. As this issue of the newsletter goes to press, several board members will attend the Tuesday, February 27 hearing on the application at Town Hall. Dale Bennett Street Light Out? If you want to get it fixed, but dont know who to call, phone 677-5915. This number will get you the unit in the Town of Oyster Bay Department of Public Works that handles street light outages. Call them and they will see that the light gets replaced. ~ In Sympathy ~ Our sympathies are extended to Marge and Michael Sarluco on the loss of their son and to Charlotte Krumm on the loss of her sister. |
