New Dog Boy Types

Desmond Bradford, director of the infamous Lone Star Complex, was pissed.

While day-dreaming of the day when he and his old buddy Karl would dominate the planet, he had accidentally punched in the wrong numerical codes in his weekly set of computer-delivered instructions to his various minions. Though they were somewhat confused by the new orders, they carried them out to the best of their ability (after all, you don't want to anger a guy who could turn you into a genefreak). By the time their employer (and master, and would-be deity) found out about their (and his) mistake, it was already too late; late hours in Section 357 can do that to you.

You see, included in the stored genetic material at Lone Star were samples of numerous housepets from the Time Before Rifts, stored there as a bulwark against man ever losing his best friends--not to mention the generations of selective breeding required to create such animals. Instead of punching in the prefix for attack animals--such as Wolfhounds, Alsatians, and the even-more-deadly Kill Hounds--Bradford had entered the "Mostly Harmless" prefix... and gotten a large number of mutant Pomeranians, Poodles, and Shih-Tzus.

Rather than admit to a mistake and having the several thousand new mutants summarily destroyed--what mistake? gods can't make mistakes--Bradford had them placed into positions that befit their... unique attributes: personnel management, recreation directors, quartermasters, uniform design, etc. The vast majority were simply moved to the front lines at Tolkeen, where it was hoped they would die quick and messy deaths.

But Desmond Bradford was still pissed...

Pomeranian: Highly intelligent and active, but small with tendencies toward heart disease and respiratory distress. +2 to IQ; +1 to MA; +1 to initiative; +2 to dodge; -1 to PS and PE; halve physical SDC; -5% to save vs. coma/death. Height is 3'6" to 4'6" and weight is proportionate to height.

Shih-Tzu: Energetic and friendly dogs of Chinese origin. Highly nervous and keyed-up (think Crazy on a caffeine buzz). Height as a mutant is from five feet to five feet, eight inches. +1 to PP; +2 to initiative; +2d4 to Spd; -1 to PE; -3 to save vs. horror factor.

Toy Poodle: These effeminate and frail animals with too much fashion sense and not enough guts are the ones most people think of when they hear "poodle." Tend to be thin, almost gaunt. +2 to MA; +1 to PB; +5% to personnel/people-oriented skills; -1 to PS and PE; reduce physical SDC and weight by 25%.

Poodle: The original breed of this animal were bred as hunters and water-dogs. The pelt shaving (which was later taken to an unfortunate extreme) was first meant to prevent the dogs from being covered in thorns and burrs. +1 to IQ; +1 to PS; +2 to PP; +10% to the Swim skill; -1 to ME; -10% to the Trust/Intimidate percentage (if one is possessed).

Spitz: Feisty dogs with lots of bravery and loyalty, but not a whole lot of sense. Aggressive with unknown people and dogs; will never surrender unless specifically ordered to do so, and will be resentful for it. +2 to PE; +1 to Spd; +1 to save vs. horror factor; -2 to IQ and ME.

Pekingese: Another dog of Chinese origin, the Pekingese were bred as lap-dogs and housepets. As mutants, they make good informants and recon agents. +1 to IQ; +2 to MA; +1 to PB; -2 to PS; -1 to PE; reduce physical SDC by 25%.

Maltese: Lap-dog of Mediterranean origin. The Maltese have long, shaggy hair which must be regularly groomed and trimmed. Ill-tempered, even with their owners, despite their popularity as housepets in the Time Before Rifts. Not good for anything much. +1 to PP; -1 to PS and PE; -1 damage per die from cold; +1 damage per die from fire.
