His first real case started when three demons, Hiei, Kurama, and Gouki, stole the three treasures of the Rekai. After a battle with Gouki, a talking session with Kurama, and another battle with Hiei, he had to fight in Genkai's Tournament, which he won. Koenma then sent him to a city of demons to fight the Four Saint Beasts, to which Kuwabara came unnessesaraly. They met up with Hiei and Kurama, who were there as part of their parole. After that, the four of them became the Rekai Tantei.
