Job / Internship Information:

In the spring and fall, High Hope Camp functions as an outdoor education center for middle school age students of client schools. The primary responsibility of the employee is instruction of students in classes for which curriculum has been established. Emphasis is on hands-on learning; number of students ranges from 30 to 100 at any point in time, with no more than 30 in a class. Employees' course preferences are considered in teaching assignments, some of which include dendrology, ornithology, wetland investigation, ecology, compass orienteering, wilderness survival skills, tracking, canoeing, horsemanship, archery, and screen printing. The spring/fall position entails no weekends nor overnight supervision of campers.

In the summer, the camp's focus changes to the recreational aspects of the outdoors, though many of the same classes are taught. Children in the age range of 5 to 16 attend individually, with no more than 40 resident at any time. The summer employee's role is similar, but includes overnight supervision of campers. Subject areas are covered in more depth, especially from a hands-on standpoint. Instruction in horsemanship and computer programming and graphics is daily, and recreational activities such as crafts, swimming, volleyball, softball, pool and ping pong are added, along with frequent field trips.
