Duncan's Mills

If you're ever wondering "why do I do this hobby again?", use this photo as an answer - how many people wake up to this sight, eh?

Look closely, ladies and gents - the runway unveiling of Miss Zeb's newest hat creation could make you look as stylish as these two gents (the "male model" poses will remain forever unpublished)

Also exhibited for the first time at DM, Patti and Miss Zeb's joint creation of an authentic 79th regimental guideon! The unit was appropriately enthused.

According to the local paper, there was some sort of "civil war" thing going on. Huh, no one told us! Talk about bad news with your breakfast!

Relieving the boredrom of standing in line, the 79th plays a few rounds of "who done it". Claude knows - oh my - but we never will thanks to the Captain "covering up" the guilty party. Shucks

Susan's new sheer dress is amazingly authentic! Wow.

The 79th gutted a few enemy as a matter of course before lunch... ho hum. Take him out there, Pvt Vallecillo! He'll lmake a great trophy when he's stuffed and hung in the tent...

Major Kevin and the Faithful Bugle Boy do the can-can just to annoy the enemy. Boy, do we have good tactical minds in the upper brass!

Merrily we go along

Alas, reenacting isn't just fun and games and sleep all the time - a wee bit of cleaning has to go into it as well

I like this photo - it looks big and crowded, which the event was.

Roaring Camp

Huzzah - 79th had a great showing. Check out these hardened, determined soldiers! No wonder the Cornfeds melted in front of them (with the exception of the 43rd...)

And how did we all get to RC? We hitchhiked, of course? (Nice hat, Sarge, but it looks decidedly western theater??)

Covered in smoke, the 79th hides gallantly behind the Iron boys, hoping that Cornfed artillery would hit them first - little did we know we had more to fear from our own guns!

Yeah, Billy Ashby (in pack) can go home and tell his pards about the curveball cannon shot that he fired that went a grand total of four feet forward and 20 feet to the left... it was lovely

We were joined by two fresh fish, Frank and "Sean" (Shawnda), who proved to be splended fighters! Frank looks like a campaigner already

Patti gives the unit a show and tell about how to fire a rifle - "this is not the end you want against your shoulder..."

Members of the CCDB showed up from Ardenwood, and we had a good Fife and Drum sound on Monday - yes, they really did play, although we have no photographic proof of this yet...

*sings* "I've been working on the raaaaiiil-road, all the live long daaaaay..." Ok, no more late nights for the Webdude...

Not content with owning snazzy CW duds, Patti and Michael plot to own more snazzy Napoleanic duds as well... (hey guys, can I have some too?)

Now here's an ironic picture! Little does Michael know that Susan is aware of his imminent death on the battlefield in the afternoon, and has donned mourning garb ahead of time

Patti and David look a little uncertain - they've never attempted to guard one of Tolkien's Nazgul before!!

Gibson Ranch

The Captian gives up on ever being able to teach these guys how to fix a bayonet, and walks away - geeze!!

Someone give that sergeant a bit of work! He shouldn't be lounging about in the shade, sleeping! That's for privates!

Woodland Highland Games

The brave and gallant souls who braved the little eensy-weensy raindrops to be at FarbFe... I mean, Woodland. Don't we look brave and gallant?

Check out Dave's new Pioneer outfit... also know as "sapper", which comes from the root word "sucker", 'cos of all the extra equipment the Pioneer had to carry. It's true.

Yes! It was the annual FarbFest 05! Up behind us the pseudo-Renn people set up what we lovingly called the "orgy tent", being as there were a LOT of "couches" everwhere.... what else could it be?

As you might have noticed, no officer showed up! BUT, we had a backup plan. Jeff Dunwoody, our invited Hardcore Extrodinaire, found a deal on a sword and promptly was promoted (with the Sergeant's permission) to "Le Emperor"

Darned smart we look!

Coerced by Le Emperor and fully confident, Sgt Quivey decides to take on the Barbarian "Mr Mini-kilt" tug-o-war champion. Stakes were high; he promised to buy the regiment beers

AAAAAND right accross the way, we have the Ali Baba's Psychic shop, which I'm sure was very popular with the Barbarian hoards which were camped out.. *ok, so it's just a sign, not the shop*

ERHUM... we won't mention the outcome. But we're still sober, so that should say something

The million dollar question: what rank was the man standing behind the photographer that caused Dave (and not Mike!) to snap to attention like that? General? Admiral? We'll never know...

Pvt Emilio was drawn to the Roman's spear throwing challange (we were taking on everyone at  this event)

He was so drawn, he decided to search out his great x 10(50) grandfather. We found him and took this photo - what a remarkable likeness they have!

Shopping was one of the great perks of the Woodland games. Evalina even bought a wee puppy! Oh wait, that's not a puppy, that's wool. Ah well, I saw several little dogs that looked like that at Woodland

All the ladies are of course QUITE jealous of Susan's Napoleanic clothing

Douglas was looking fine and soldierly, as usual - smashing white crossbelts!

Knight's Ferry

The results of the First Meeting of the Officers of '05 was kept in secret - only the black/white smoke from  Claude's fire showed what a happened...

tentatively emerging from their tents (no, that pun was not intended), the crew finds that the rain wasn't nearly as bad as was predicted, and the SUCKERS of the battalion that did not arrive would miss a good day

During the night, our camp was attacked by several junior juveniles with waterballoons from the near-by town. They made a mistake in picking on the 69th, as Lt. Billy shows here. The lad who wore this hat is now stuffed, glass eyes and all, and resting over Billy's fireplace.

The stack completed, it's time for the art critics to argue over shape, angles, dimensions, ratios, and geometric abstraction on this lovely art form...

We have stacking arms down to an art. Don't mind Bob's sunglasses - he's undercover, you know. Hush hush!

The cream of the crop of the batallion showed up to our inaugural event, here represented by our very healthy officer corps...

But I'm not so sure if this crop would be called "cream" or no...

But while in battle, cream or no cream doesn't seem much of an issue when you are marching backwards, uphill, on long slippery wet grass in brogans!

Check out Capt Ray's brand new shiny naval swivle gun, with it's custom stand built by our very own Claude - that little gun packs a big punch. All we need is the ship now, savvy?

Yeah, so it was a little bit damp-ish - but we STILL have fun! (right guys? right?)

I, webdude, am very proud of this photo. It is beautiful. Lovely. A bit dark, perhaps, but still lovely. IT'S LOVELY I SAY!

Winter Quarters events

The NCWA drill event at Gibson Ranch was the unveiling of Sgt Quivey's new "mega-cool-lined" sack coat. Marty and Quivey show off their lining... pretty!

The "Action in the Lowlands" Pike & Shot event (hosted by the RMS) allowed Pat to burn some powder!

Danny showed up as well, looking smart in his nifty blue bonnet...

And look, even at 200 years earlier than he's used to, he's STILL using our "in place rest" position! Good training can't be removed...

Fort Point, San Francisco

Hands clapped in glee as we all looked forward to the event where we could finally wear our heavy greatcoats! Hands soon were numb...

Garrison soldiers are easy to spot, as they are usually missing a limb or two. Douglas lost his left arm, as you can see - "Mommy, is that real?"

Look!!! No hands! And still smiling, probably 'cos it was so cold Pvt Susan didn't notice her hands were gone

We had to place guards after that fateful year the Rebs arrived with water balloons. Now we poke people as they come through just to make sure

Yeah, I got a period rush looking at this photo - marching in a fort: it doesn't get any better.

After authenticating this photo, I got so excited by the periodness of it all that I had to go to the Little Sergeant's Room

Camp Q traded muskets for drums - some wussy excuse about the "weight". The Webdude is looking a little too excited there with that big drum

I'm not sure how he did it, but Claude manages to smoke even without his pipe! Something he must have learned in the artillery

Forts, Soldiers, and Fife and Drum - Now it doesn't get any better!

And check out Patti's new green coat - looking snazzy! Now we have to convince her to wear the Napoleanic French light Infantry outfit at Knights!
