The Classics Club of Wright State University
Refounded in Spring of 2000 by Amy Spowart and Joe Shaffer
I know what you're thinking:

Why Purple?

Well, that's quite simple. The royal color of Rome was purple, as well as the color of the Senate. One of the major Phoenician exports was a dye called 'purple.'

So, the color purple goes back a long time.

And Gold? Well, what makes the world go round? ^_^ OK, enough joking, and down to facts. ^_^

The Classics Club was re-founded in Spring 2000, by two of Wright State's top students in Classical Antiquities: Amy Spowart and Joseph Shaffer, with of course, the help of the whole Classics Department.

You're probably wondering what this word 'Classics' is. Well, I'll try to tell you is few word as I can:

Classics doesn't mean "oldies" or "classical music" but Classical Athens, The Republic of Rome and the Empire of Rome, The Minoans, The Mycenaeans, Troy, Pericles the Onion Head, Augustus, Philosophy, Stoicism, Epicureanism, Xenophon, The Persian Wars, the Peloponnesian War, Alexander The Great and the Great King Cyrus. Darius III and the battle of Gaugamela.

Demetrius Poliorcetes and his father, Antigonus Monophthalmos at the Battle of Ipsus in 302 BC against Seleucus, Cassander and Ptolemy for the kingdom of Alexander the Great. The first battle where a LARGE number of men were ever on the battle field. Upwards of 2,000 men! And don't confuse Ipsus with Issus. Issus was the first defeat of Darius on Persian soil by Alexander the Great in 333 BC.

All this and more are all things that have made us what we are.

And don't kid yourself. Rome has never fallen. Sure, it may have declined, but it's one of the oldest cities in the world, and so is Athens for that matter. Their beliefs and customs come down to us till this day.

Kinda ironic when all you hear is "Rome is evil!", or "Don't remember the past! It's in the past and we can't learn from it."

It has always infuriated me when I hear this, because if it were not for Rome and for Greece, we would never have half the things that we do today.

Give the Ancients the time they deserve.
This site is under construction: Cavate! Beware ^_^ It'll change. We recently went to Nashville to see the Parthenon, and as soon as ProConsul Secundus sends me the pictures, I'll post them here ^_^ So you can see what a crazy group we are. :P
