Mentors

When a member first joins the club, they are assigned a mentor. This mentor helps them along, explaining the club's rules and ensuring that the new member ("newbie") understands the club's atmosphere. While on mentorship, all posts must be sent to the mentor for approval before being sent to the mailing list. This is an easy way to make sure that the new person has a good grasp on the way things work in the club.

A member already off of mentorship may be returned if a lack of canon understanding is shown. If this happens, a warning will be given for the first offense, and a return to mentorship for the second. If it continues, the member in question may be suspended from the club. Such a policy does not refer to minor lapses, which everybody has, but rather major events (such as having a dragonrider timing it, or going to Benden).

While on mentorship, a member may have a maximum of two personas, and neither one may be ranking. In addition, a member under mentorship may not be nominated for a Board position. Mentorship will last until some guidelines have been met. These are:
*Three consecutive uncorrected posts have been approved and sent to the club list.
It is preferred, but not required, that one of these is a copost.
*A mentee has been under mentorship for at least one month.

Becoming a Mentor

If you would like to become a mentor, then good for you! We are all happy that you would like to take part in making the club a better place. To become a mentor, you should be aware that you will be proofreading a lot of posts. You should have read many (if not all) of the Pern books, and have an outstanding grasp on Pern canon. You should also have internet time, and not go on LOA too often.

Think you are ready for the job? If so, just email the Board and explain why you feel you'd make a good Mentor. Also include which area you would like to cover as a mentor.
