If we want to play in Anne McCaffrey's world of Pern, it follows that we must all follow her rules. We have two sets of rules listed here, McCaffrey's Rules, and then the basic club rules. While those made for this club may be negoiated, Anne's rules are final. Failure to follow her rules may lead in being suspended from the club. Please read over the entirety of these rules before submitting a persona sheet! Any questions can be directed to the Board. * No characters created by Anne McCaffrey can be used, in any way. This means you can not have a Lessa, or even the great-grand daughter of Lessa. Names may not be slightly edited - Lissa or Robanton will not pass approval. * No religion, magic, or war on Pern. The only war that has even happened on Pern and will ever happen is the war between Pernese and Thread. No Holds will fight against Holds; such an action takes time away from battling Thread! Instead of using God, use Faranth, shards, or some similar Pernese term. * Other universes, whether created by Anne McCaffrey or other people, will never be involved with Pern. Sorry, everybody. Your Crystal Singer will never become a dragonrider, nor will brain ships offer assistance. When Pern was settled, any technology that would assist in reaching the stars was forgotten. Think of Pern as a "middle ages" type society. * There are only five dragon colors: gold, bronze, brown, blue, and green. There are no other colors, and there are no sport dragons. Yes, your dragon can be a specific shade of green, or have various shades of blue, but can not be polka dotted or purple. * Golds will only Impress to women. Bronzes will only Impress to men. In addition, browns and blues will only Impress men. Female greenriders are rare (think of Mirrim and the problems she stirred), although they are permitted as all riders are urgently needed. If you are a female, it may be awhile before you Impress. * Benden Weyr and Ruatha Hold are off limits. Your persona may mention Benden or Ruatha *in passing*, but may not go there. In our timeline, Benden Weyr has been destroyed. Benden wine may be used, but such an item is neither tithed nor cheap; as High Reaches is on the west coast, Tillek's wine is more common. * NO fanfiction, or poetry, whether your own or quoted from Anne McCaffrey's works. Stories are to be sent to the club list, and nowhere else. Stories written for another club should not be reused here, even if you wrote it for the same character. Coposts are to be written via email, not any instant messaging program. All club members are expected to follow the club rules, but these may be changed at the will of the club. Any new additions will be voted upon by all club members, thus ensuring that the rules will not change overnight. Benden The official word from Anna is that dragonriders from Benden Weyr are permitted, provided Benden Weyr is never used as more than a mention in posts. Your persona may be from Benden Weyr, and may mention it, but may not go back to Benden Weyr. In our timeline, Benden Weyr has been destroyed and is nothing more than a heap of rubble. Would your persona honestly want to return when they are so busy fighting Thread? Any dragons older than thirty-five would have to have Impressed at Benden Weyr. Any younger would never have even seen it. The same applies in a more limited way to humans as well - anyone younger than thirty-five turns would never have lived at Benden, while those older may have if they were from there originally. Goldriders At any one time, the club will have no more than three (3) senior golds and two (2) weyrling golds in it. As a rule of thumb, there will be one gold dragon, either an adult or a hatching, for every ten members in the club. When the dragonriders first went to High Reaches, they found in the Records hides telling of a queen's wing, so such a thing does exsist. Goldriders are given weyrling training, although it is somewhat different from the others in that the young gold needs to learn vastly different information. If you would like to have a goldrider in High Reaches, we ask that you do not have a goldrider anywhere else in fandom. What fun is it to have five golds in five different clubs, when another member may have never had even one? Pets We play in the North; firelizards are a thing of myth and bedtime stories only. In time, they may be brought in. Until this happens, your persona may not own or even see (outside of childhood) one of the creatures. If firelizards are permitted, then a persona would have to earn one - no premade character would be allowed one. Canines and felines are fairly common; if you want a pet please choose one of these. For Holders, runners are available. They would be fairly expensive, so your persona should have a good reason for actually owning a runner. Watch-Whers are permitted, provided your persona is a Steward of a Hold, and the Hold does not already have one. The information learned in Dragon's Kin has long since been forgotten. Posting Posting at High Reaches is not, at any time or for any reason, to be done in a "round robin" style. What this means is that you can not post to the club about B'ob walking into the dining hall and waiting for somebody else to pick up and continue the post. Coposts where this happens is allowed and more than encouraged, as long as only the final draft is sent to the club list. Any mistakes, hitting send instead of save, which results in an unfinished post being sent is okay - we've all done it! If this happens, just send a friendly "excuse this post, it shouldn't have been sent!" message to the club. There are no set lengths for how long a normal post must be, but posts for a ranking persona should be around 5K long - this is about a full page, or a page and a half, in a word processer. Please don't think that a post that is three paragraphs long (or three sentences) will suffice for requirements. It shouldn't be too hard to meet this, especially with coposts. If a post is extremely long (a 30K+ post), you have the option of sending it to the club in pieces. All posts must contain two things: a header at the top of a post, and a signature at the bottom. The subject line in an email should follow a structure as well. Examples are below.
Coposting Coposting is a term that means a post with more than one writer. These can be about anything under Rukbat, from two people meeting, to Threadfall, to wing duties. When coposting, please keep a couple of things in mind:
Ranking Personas We do not currently have a limit as to how many personas or ranker any one person may hold. This may change, if the club grows enough to warrant such a limit. We have two basic rules that must be followed when applying for rank: You must be off mentorship and be a member in good standing (no rank warnings for the past month); you may not have more than two (2) rankers at any one location - this excludes bronzeriders and candidates. For example, if you have a Hallmaster and a journeyman HAD at one location, you may not have the Hallsecond at the same location; if you have a Wingleader and the Weyrlingmaster, you may not ask for another ranker at the Weyr. Likewise, you may not hold both Weyrwoman and Weyrleader positions. This rule is in place so that one person does not command all of the ruling personas at any one location; what fun would it be to play the Weyrleader, Weyrwoman, Weyrlingmaster *and* any other Wingleaders? |
